Odd Universe serial number? starts with "A"

It's a Black UV7BK with a serial of A064955. I was told i should be concerned this was not a real Ibanez. I really hope someone can shed some light on this, as I doubt I can return a guitar to a store that no longer exists, 11 years later. [E.U. Wurlitzer]

I took a few pictures, which are quite large, that can be seen at http://www.endora.com/ibanez

It does say made in japan on the tuners...but no one has heard of this serial number.

Wow: handling that really leaves marks, I'll need to clean it up if I decide to sell it, it's mint condition but the marks make it look odd.

You'd have to post a picture of it.

Can't argue with that. Some things will never be explained, and that would be the first plate like that I can recall.

Macro is for close ups, most of your pics are terribly out of focus.

Perhaps the plate was replaced?

If anyone would know, it would be Rich.

You shouldn't put the ball-ends into the trem like that!

other than that, it's a real uvi with the wrong plate.

Yep, looks like a '97 UV with a weird neckplate, all the rest looks dead on authentic, so i wouldn't worry!

Well that makes me feel better, I was worried about the serial. Does Ibanez have any email or phone support where I can ask them about it by chance?

Ouch, Yeah man definetly cut the balls off the strings instead of putting them in the trem.

I've never seen a neckplate like ever, pretty interesting. Nice UV7BK.

Ya that got fixed, I never noticed that until now. The guitar sat in the case for years. That was a bad way to string it up though.
