Odd UV7BK - custom UV7BK with pyraminds???

I was at Guitar Center last night in Sherman Oaks and I noticed a universe hanging up way above everyone's reach. I asked a salesperson to take it down for me. This Universe had a custom graphic but it had the three color pyramind inlays. I presumed it was a UVMC stripped of its essence but that wasn't the case.
Upon further inspection, it was indeed a UV7BK because the body itself was black and it had the trademark black/green/black pickguard with the green pickups and green knobs and tip. It had a '91 serial # yet the single coil had pole pieces. Oh ya, it also had a Lo-pro edge7. What really baffled me was the neck! It was on sale used for $999. Not too bad, but rather expensive for an oddity as such as this.

It sounds like a UV7BK with a replacement neck.
Did you notice how the headstock was painted?

That's what I presumed as well. The headstock had the green Ibanez logo on black.

UV77MC neck on a UV7BK. Not a custom or rarity. For $999 it is a good value IMHO... glen

one thing i don't understand:
you say it has a custom graphic, but the body is black, the pickguard is b/g/b, headstock is black. where is the graphic?

If i tried describing to you what the graphic looks like, it'll take a whole new forum for me to tell ya lol. j/k It'd be *much* easier if I took a photo of it but I don't think GC will let me take a camera inside the store to take a picture of A guitar.
The custom paintjob on this UV was on the front body and on the pickguard itself. The back of the UV IS black however.

Judasbane,

I've taken a camera into that very GC before to shoot a UVMC, so it shouldn't be a problem. *If they ask, just tell them you're considering buying it but need to show it to a friend for his opinion.

As someone who used to work for them, I used to allow customers to take a pic or two of a guitar under the heading of "I want to ask my insurance people what it would cost to insure it..."

At Guitar Center, they usually will let you do it if the guitar is by itself. They are more paranoid that another music store is photographing their displays for ideas. So, just a guitar on a stand, not the whole wall, shouldn't be an isssue with anyone.

See if Jeremy Gardner still works there. Sherman Oaks was managed by him for a long while, but I haven't seen him in ages, so dunno. But he'd let ya' do it...
