Orig Edge backwards travel

My edge on my 1990 Jem, when you take the trem back far enough the strings end up hitting the intonation screws. I am just wondering if this is what happens on all jems, when you move the trem back far enough?

Re: Orig Edge backwards travel

Is the neck shimmed or the action quite high? If the trem doesn't bottom out in the cavity the strings will touch the 24th fret

Re: Orig Edge backwards travel

I dont own a jem but would imagine it should be setup just like any other edge system. It sounds like a combination of your bridge floating (at its neutral position) at too much of back angle, meaning the side closest to the heel of the guitar. Along with a high bridge i suppose its possible to pull up so much that it bottoms out on the intonation screws. Take a look at some of the pictures of a properly setup edge angle to verify this first.

Re: Orig Edge backwards travel

how may semi-tones up are you getting? meaning if you fret a G at the third fret on the high e.. then pull up on the trem arm.. what note do you end up at before it bottoms out? also some pics of the bridge might help. I believe you should get somewhere between 2-4 semi-tones with a typical setup. And are you sure you not bottoming out on the fretboard... (ibanez rules says perfect fourth is attainable... 5 semitones)

Re: Orig Edge backwards travel

sounds like the trem might be a bit high. On my main RG550, with the open G string, I can pull back and raise the note 7 semitones. It bottoms out on the cavity, before hitting the intonation screws.

Re: Orig Edge backwards travel

My travel is fine I am not worried about that, I was just wondering if anyone else bottoms out in this way too? Instead of hitting the back of the recess first.
