Overpriced Jem?
Hey,
As a lot of you know i've been looking for a Jem 77fp. Well i was watching one on evilbay and it was a 89' with no dings, chips, and all it had was very minor surface scratches*Atleast, thats what he said* So i was watching it and it sold for $1740! Is that overpriced or is that how much a jem in that condition/year go for?

Re: Overpriced Jem?
I just bought a 2003 15th FP from Rich for $1875. Prices are going up! I think it was worth it for my FP, it is MINT! I would rather pay 2k or close for a FP than a BRMR, you get more for your money. If you want one, just get it, you will have to pay good money for it though, just get it dude.

Re: Overpriced Jem?
A clean 89' with no issues should bring quite a bit. Wasn't that the model year that had the actual fabric from Steve's curtains under the clearcoat? Someone else on the board that's up on the history of the FP can shed more light on that one.
I'm glad the price curve is heading back up....3-4 years ago prices were bottoming out thanks to that auction site. You can still find deals out there, but "cheap" and "Jem" really shouldn't be in the same sentence.

Id like to know what you mean getting more for your money purchasing a FP versus a BRMR?Ive been playing my BRMR in live situations and practicing at home and I think its a really fine guitar.I had an Fp and sold it because the quality was not what I expected.Did not come close to my BRMR.
Gotta admit the FP does look kool.To each his own.

I love the BRMR as well, I just mean you get a vine inlay, matching head-stock, interesting colored p-ups, and an unusual finish! My FP is total quality, maybe the best guitar I've ever had.

Re: Overpriced Jem?
$ 1,740 seems a bit high to me unless its MINT, but not rediculous. Just depends on how bad you want it. Patience in this matter always helps (I know...I have no patience either, lol) Just to let you know....and I'm sure I just got lucky, but I scored a single owned MINT 88' FP for $ 1,300. Really, like I said - its really up to you and how bad you want it. I do try to warn people about the "bay" though. Tis a dangerous place....one good rule about buyibngf Jems.....if you can't play it first beware....you are just going by someone's word...and assuming you don't know this person...get my drift
Advice on choices -
1.) $ 1,740 for an older FP you really dont know the true condition
OR
2.) $ 1,875 for a new 2003 in mint condition from Rich
If your going to pay that much anyhow....spend the xtra $ 130 and get one from Rich (assuming he still has some) I think you'd be better off in the end.
just my 0.02

+1, get the 03 unless you can play the 88 before you buy.
