Parter Friendly Jems
“Partner Friendly Jems” (and others)
I was chatting to Rich earlier today and came up with the idea for this post.
The intension is to have a laugh and get a good list of how your partner (she or he – no discrimination here!) might react next time you bring another one home (guitar that is, not a partner – wrong website if that’s what your after!!)
In my experience………..
Partner Friendly Jems:
BFP (you can always get away with them!!)
PMC (1 for – “I like that Purple – It will match the lava-lamp in the study”)
Jem 10th (when I showed her Mr Vai’s at the HRC in Singapore – “That’s a nice one why don’t you get one like that.” – Cha-ching!!!)
7vwh (“nice neck, quite a classy one that, but why have those two got gold bits and the one in the middle got silver bits? Looks like they’ve skimped a bit” -She was taliking about the pick-up pole pieces – and she was right!!)
7pbk (“classy”)
7vbl & DBK( No strong feeling either way – That’s a win in my book!)
Partner Un-friendly Jems:
SK (“That’s horrible!”)
LNG (“It started it all? I surprised it didn’t finish it all”)
PMC (1 against “looks like all the paints melting off it”)
GMC (“That looks like baby’s poo with tip-ex flicked on it!” – In fairness to her, that one did look like baby’s poo with tip-ex flicked on it (FYI tip-ex = liquid paper))
FP (She – “That looks like it’s got old curtains stuck to it.” Me – “Yeah, it has got old curtains stuck to it – isn’t it cool!” She – “You’ll buy anything!”)
BSB (“Why would you burn a new guitar? If it wasn’t for that and that metal bit on the front it would be a nice one!” Again, I am struggling to put a decent argument!!)
Partner Friendly UVs:
UV777 –(“I like that pearl triangle at the bottom” – She’s right again!)
Partner Un-friendly Jems:
MC – (“you’d get beaten up around Wigan carying that thing!”)
Partner Friendly J-Customs:
Maple tops with Ablalone Vines (Always a winner!! “I like those Vines and the one’s where you can see the wood underneath, they’re much nicer than those fluorescent ones” Get some while you can!!)
Maple tops with offset dots (Winners! Nice but would be better with one of those vines up the neck.)
ARCH (“Nice one”)
Partner Un-friendly J-Customs
ART (I was surprised by this one but “No – you can see where he’s painted over the lines, I could do better than that! Sell it and get a different one.”)
GOLD1 (“there’s no way you are putting that thing on the wall in this house” Shame it played great and sounded awesome with the Ash)
GEAR (“Why would you want a guitar with cogs on it?”)
Partner Friendly JS
JS 900 (That’s a nice in black)
JS10th (“That is Cool” – that was the first one however, by the fourth it starts to wear thin!!!)
Partner Un-friendly JS
JS90th (Me – “Look, if you look at it this way it’s purple and if you look at it this way it’s green, it’s like a TVR!” She – “If you look at it that way it’s bloody awful and if you look at it that way it’s bloody awful, and no you can’t have a TVR before you even ask!”)
Partner Friendly PGM’s
All of them so far the 100, 300, 500 and 90th ( I didn’t think see would like the 100 but it is one of her faves (-well OK fave is a strong word!) and the 500 also gets special commendation as “you should play that in your Burberry shirt” Get a PGM!!)
Partner Un-friendly PGM’s
None to date but I have just seen a PGM600 so there’s always a chance!!
Hope fully we will find the ultimate Partner friendly Ibanez!!

interesting topic man! well, i don't have nearly enough ibanezes to justify any opinion on the ones posted so i'll just comment on my FP...
i don't have a gf so this is not really about 'partner friendly' but in terms of my friends, a grand total of 0 of them like the finish...so i gave them all the complimentary finger
...the FP is classy, imho...

LOL, that made me laugh. Your right about the PGM's, there so classy you can't go wrong. I don't have a girl friend right now and am unfortunatly still living with my parents so i get that from my mum!
mum: you've already got 6 guitars why do you want another one?
me: because it has 7 strings and looks cool, anyway i don't have 6 guitars, I have two.... and ok four basses
mum: so what differance does it make?
me: It's got more friggin strings what do mean what differance does it make!
And so on. I swear it must be harder convinsing your mum that you do need another rather than your gf. It's harder when you say your off to buy another amp because they take up even more space than guitars do!

I just looked at this thread to see what in the world a 'parter' was...
I had one guitar then brought home an acoustic. That was fine. Two Jems later, and she hasn't said much, maybe, "Why do you need
another
one?" I'll go through it again, in January, when I pursue my next and last guitar for a while, a RG8670TV.

My wife really likes my FP. She was actually almost as psyched as I was when I brought it home, but she also likes how I play, too, so I don't know if that's good or not.
When I get a chance, I'll have to post up a song or two in the multimedia forum and let y'all judge. Then I'll know if she's off.

After 16 years of marriage to a non-musician, I've had to tell some "White Lies". Please save these examples for future use:
"...oh, that one? I've had it for years!..."
"...um, yes, it was on sale dear...."
"....but honey!, Think of the money I SAVED by getting it used!..."
"...a sick friend needed the money....."
"....Yes dear, I'll make it all back when I sell it......."

All those lines sounded familiar to me! I also quite like:
"no no dear, I'm just repairing it for a mate ....."
The repair has taken over 18 months so far!

Actually, I just bought a UV777BK with the pyramids and the "eye" pyramid on the body. This makes 2 UV's on the wall at the same time!
I'm seriously hooked on 7 strings- I may never go back to conventional 6
string guitars
again.

"surely you've seen that one. i've had it for over 6 months!" (Fender Tele - AX1220)
"it's on loan 'cause the guy doesn't use it and would rather see it get used than sit in his closet." (Hamer USA Studio) - this will work great and i'll keep on about how much i love the guitar and how great a price he's offering it to me for until she caves and says, "just buy it so i don't have to listen to you go on about it anymore!"
"i traded another guitar for it and it didn't cost me a dime!" (777VBK, 7DBK, RG570, Wolfgang USA standard)
"the parts alone would've cost more than i paid for the whole guitar!" (RG550)
"it's on loan from the store." (i work at a
music store
) (USA Strat)
now that i have gone from only 4 guitars two years ago to over 20 (about the same time i joined Jemsite - coincidence? i think not!), it is much easier to do this as she can't keep track - she is still trying to figure WHEN i actually went from 4 to 20 guitars - but i have them coming and going so often it hasn't been hard to aquire them without her knowing and the next 4-5 that are in the works on top of the 2-3 customs that are under construction. GAS - is there a 12 step program?
my bills are paid and we are not married so there really isn't much she can say anyway.....i love my job(s)!!

me: How dya like my UV777Pbk?
gf: How would you like a kick in the knackers, where's the new bathroom?
(3 months later)
me: How dya like my Jem777DY?
gf: How would you like a fist in the face, where's my new kitchen f**k features!!!
In my experience there are no gf friendly axes!!

your next guitar should be a "pointy" one like a Jackson Warrior so you at least have something to defend yourself!
