Perfect . . . but
My new refined jem, after getting a new one because of the other one having various problems, the whole guitar is set up to the recommended way under the tech setup on this site. Theres only one problem. After playing for about 2 minutes the whole guitar just goes flat, and won't stay in tune. Any suggestions, im about fed up with setting up these guitars and not knowing alot about them in the first place.

Re: Perfect . . . but
Is there a good way to set your
string retaining bar
without stripping the screws and without tuning everything down? I find it extremely difficult to turn.

Re: Perfect . . . but
They are stretched, i bend the string radically, they don't go out of tune, as soon as i lock that nut down, get the thing in tune, because for some reason, even with the trem blocked, i can't get the string
retainer bar
screws to turn any more, unless i wanna make the screws unusuable. So now what, baaa!!!

Re: Perfect . . . but
Correction . . . I have stretched the strings, and they still go flat. I have blocked the trem, and the string
retaining bar
screws will not, no matter what, budge at all. This also leaves it to where when i lock the nuts, the strings go sharp.

Re: Perfect . . . but
Maybe they are tight enough. (string retainer bar screws) It just has to touch the strings. This is not going to cause your guitar to go flat.

Re: Perfect . . . but
no, when i lock the nuts, (this has nothing to do with it going flat, they go sharp, and i can't get the bar to go lower.

Re: Perfect . . . but
I know exactly what you are going through. Those screws can be very hard to turn..............even harder with string pressure. Someone said it right earlier...................make sure you have the correct screw driver before you attempt to turn them. If you strip them...............good luck.............if you don't have the correct screwdriver......................just measure the amount the string goes sharp when locked. Unlock the guitar and tune it flat by the same amount. Relock the nut...................making sure the lock down pads don't twist slightly when locking. This is a common reason why the strings go sharp when locking. Use the allen key with the small end between your thumb and index finger and turn it thumb and finger tight. Hold the pad with your other hand to feel if it twists at all......................this should help a bit.

Re: Perfect . . . but
If your going to play a guitar with a floating trem you should really enjoy the tinkering that goes with it. If not your going to be prety unhappy with your guitar. Unless you have a tech on hand to do it for you.

You are gonna have to come here with a much better attitude if you expect to get further help or information in the future. Trust me. I've been on this board since 97. Most of these guys are a WEALTH of knowledge & the crap you see on "other" guitar boards is NOT tolerated here. You will find Jemsite to be the most comprehensive & intelligent guitar boards around...without all the sh*ttalking.
Enjoy your stay, but please be considerate of the others who were at least trying to help you. Everyone was "listening", but sometimes it's a little more difficult to understand the problem from the confines of a computer.
