Pickguard question...

I'm in the process of building a JEM2K-DNA. The body is coming from Herc Fede within the next couple of weeks. What is the correct pickguard I need to get for this guitar? Where can I purchase it from?

THANX!!!!!

Scott

PS I will post pics as soon as I have some.

Re: Pickguard question...

Its a transparent plastic pickguard no?

Try one of the links/sponsors above. They might have the one you'd like.

What is this "glow guard"? They look clear in the pictures I've seen. Do they glow in the dark or something?

Re: Pickguard question...

The guards give off a blue glow in sunlight, and light up like a 100w light bulb under black light.

Re: Pickguard question...

Here you can see the blue glowing a little bit (much more under sunlight):

And here under black light:

Re: Pickguard question...

Does this look like the material it's made with? Or is it to "blue"?

I would say it's too blue.

Re: Pickguard question...

Those are coloured however.

I'm not sure but:

There's a chance that the chemical in the pickguards giving the glow was Strontium Aluminate.

CAS Number 12004-37-4

This is mixed into the plastic and then molded into a pickguard or anything really. Maybe some pickguard makers can try out this idea?

From Wikipedia: "Strontium aluminate is vastly superior phosphor than its predecessor, copper-activated zinc sulfide; it is about 10 times brighter, 10 times longer glowing, and 10 times more expensive than ZnS:Cu. It is frequently used in glow in the dark toys, where it displaces the cheaper but less efficient ZnS:Cu. However, the material has high hardness, causing abrasion to the machinery handling it; coating the particles with a suitable lubricant is usually used when strontium aluminate is added to plastics."

Warning: Using the CAS Number try to find MSDS (A chemical data sheet) before handling. Might be hazardous - However its used in child's plastic toys so it is unlikely. Safety first.

Or easier method to get some glow in the dark powder which can be easily found on the web.

Re: Pickguard question...

The last picture I sent is of 1/8" thick fluorescent blue acrylic plexiglass. So I would imagine this glows under black lights. I emailed to get more info and some pics.
