Alright guys, I know I am posting this in the wrong forum but I do have legitimate reason. I own an rg321mh and I am gonna have some modifications done. I am gonna have it routed for the monkey grip and since it doesn't have a trem, a guy I know locally is going to route it so it has a modified lion's claw route behind the bridge. It will still be a fixed bridge, just having a mock lion's claw behind it to kind of help with creating a jem-like appearance. I am also having it routed for a single coil in the middle position and will have a custom paint job as well.
Here is my problem... I replaced the bridge pickup with a
seymour duncan distortion model pickup and while it is a great pickup in other guitars I have played, it's just to muddy and bottom heavy with the mahogany body. I want to switch it out for a
dimarzio pickup but I am not sure which model would be best. I have considered the tone zone like many of you use but I am concerned about how it will sound with the mahogany body. I am also considering an evolution or a steve's special. Any suggestions? Please remember it needs to sound great with the mahogany body.
BTW... I am not a lead player in that I don't take solos. I am a very aggressive rhythm player so a "lead tone" isn't needed, just a hot thick rhythm tone that isn't too bottom heavy or muddy when used with mahogany. Any help you all can give me would be greatly appreciated. I will also post pics of the mods when it is done. Thanks for your help guys!!!
