Pickup configuration.

I decided to ditch the purchase of the Jem 20th on the principal of its over inflated cost in the UK . To give myself a bit of comfort I started a new custom Jem project which has now turned into five different guitars.

I need your ideas on which pickup configuration to go for on just one of them.
What is the ultimate or most unusual set up you would have yourself.

I dont gig anymore and my style covers just about everything , so no limitations.I realy would like some input on this one.

Cheers.
AL.

Re: Pickup configuration.

For starters, what type of pickup layout do you have?

Hum-Hum?

H-S-H?

H-S-S?

Re: Pickup configuration.

Well.......
The first question that popped into my mind as I was reading......you answered before I was done. What style you play. Im the same way. My heart is into low end power groove hard rock, but I also play jazz, classical, some goofy country rip off chops, etc..........
Just my "own" opinion.......the traditional H/S/H works great. Im having a custom Jem 7 string built with an Evo Humbucker in the bridge, an Evo single coil in the middle, and the new D Activator in the neck. I like my low end power groove rythums to cave in chest, I like my solos to sound like theyre flying thru space at mach 12, and my clean finger pickin stuff to cut glass.
However, a friend here at work, whos into death metal, prefers straight up blade style humbuckers, some just one at the bridge, some both bridge & neck.
The point I guess Im getting at, isnt so much what kind of configuration "looks" cool or unusual.........but whats going to get you that tone thats in your heart & mind. Further more........I dont necessarily believe its so much "in" the configuration, as much as "whats in" the configuration. Im sure all these things I just said.........you probrably already know
But.......I havent posted here in a few days and this was the perfect topic for me to offer up some blah blah blah
Hope it helped a little............
Laterz!...................~Ranz~

Re: Pickup configuration.

Neck - Breed
middle - Red Velvet (the best of a strat and tele with a lot of output, spanky)
Bridge - Steve's Special (closest thing to a Blaze II)

My favorite stock pickup set is in the Universe.

I don't know about the YJM singles, they are very weak with a high output pickup.
