Poor Man's Jem Collection.

Ok, last night I had some of my friends round. Anyways I only have a 777VBK and a BRMR at the moment, and one of my friends who has a PMC accused me of having a poor mans Jem collection!!! Wish I never sold my GMC!

Shocking or what?? So what if I do not have the rarest JEM, it doesn't mean I have a poor collection, I paid well for the 777VBK as many on here will know that and the BRMR wasn't cheap either.

Ironic huh?
a poor mans JEM collection....

I'd say you've done very well with the BRMR. I would love to have one of them.

Now THAT is Jem-snobbery.

Neither the VBK or BRMR are anything to be sniffed at!

I was shocked to hear one of my mates saying that! It felt embarassing too, saying stuff like "The BRMR is nothing compared to the PMC"

What a load of bollocks.

It's completely down to preference... or at least it is to people that haven't spent an absolute fortune on a guitar just for bragging rights.

I remember a while back when my dad was in a band, he went into a recording studio with his Marshall Valvestate with 4x10 cab and some guy that worked there said "Oh look, a baby Marshall" to this DAY I would still love to have cracked him in the face. To be honest, I was only about 12 at the time, but had that of been now I'd of ask him what the point in saying that was.

It's like some people are making up for other downfalls

Re: Poor Man's Jem Collection.

Actually, that's another reason why I've been playing a Squier Strat recently. It's out of sheer principle that it's a BLOODY GOOD guitar. If I can make that thing sound sweet next to someone else that's playing a USA strat, what does that say about me/my axe and him/his axe?

Another good thing is that I've owned countless high-end axes, so nobody can ever say "You think it's good because you can't have better."

Please

I agree with apmaman.it is kind of ironic.Anyway since when was playing guitar, let alone collecting them a competition?!Think your mate is abit of a sad b@$t@rd.
A Jem is a Jem,some may look prettier but so what?!Some people need to get out more and you need to spend less time worrying about what people think.

I really don't care if my guitars are not top end guitars, as long as they sound good I don't care. I think my Epiphone Les Paul Custom sounds excellent, I only paid £225 for it aswell.

Re: Poor Man's Jem Collection.

Thats terrible i've only got one Jem, I must be almost a tramp. And if I ever manage to sell my Universe i'll be down to just TWO Ibanez guitars altogether "oh the shame!" I think I may have to resign my membership to this site.

Remember guys and gals you can only play one and drool over an other at any one time!

Ahh, thankfully some people actually talk sense around here, I thought I was on my own when it comes to this sort of stuff. I like the JEM, it's a great guitar, and if someone can afford one they should consider themselves lucky, but I have always thought it was overpriced, and that's why I play a decent RG instead. Well, 1 and a half decent RG's, to be precise.

I hate it when people look down on me or others for using a V-Amp Pro, and hey, if you've got 50 guitars, a huge rack of effects and 20 expensive tube amps you better know how to use 'em, otherwise you're getting played under the table! Have you noticed how most people who are able to brag about their gear are usually crap musicians?

Your friend is a schmuck. I wish for him that all his gear gets stolen.

Re: Poor Man's Jem Collection.

This seems like snobbery of the highest order. Most guitarists would sell limbs (though probably not their arms) to have ONE decent guitar like a Jem. If you have a 777VBK and a BRMR then you are extremely fortunate to own 2 of the greatest guitars ever made.
I must have a very poor man's collection (a 77FP + original RG550, strat and an 80's destroyer), but strangely such levels of destitution aren't bothering me at the moment and if they were then I could always console myself that the PMC was actually a poor man's version of the ATD UVMC (oops-- ducks for cover!!!!!!)
