why would fractionallz or any other seller offer to assume the cost of the customs taxes/fees? it reads like you're suggesting the seller take the hit for this.

That's where you hit the point of the buyer accepting this and for them to subsequently an insurance policy before the purchase is completed.

Yes they will if you look at the Priority route instead of Express. Express shipping can also incur additional tax for the recipient in customs and taxes. I've had two JEMS shipped in their cases from USA now via USPS without incident.

Another thing worth looking into, as you've brought it up and I missed it the first time, are the size restrictions placed onto the destination country. I'm pretty sure that Spain is such a country where the case would simply be to big. You and the recipient(s) should also look into this as you would then be faced with a) having to ship in a gig-bag or b) possibly having the shipment returned back to you.

Not at all. I've seen reputable online sites offering this service and it *may* be a way to reduce the customs and tax for the recipient. Obviously the recipient would have to pay this privilege.

I've made four wire transfers now without incident or complaint. Your reasons for not accepting a wire transfer are?

Wire transfers, once complete, are non-reversible. PayPal can be reversible under certain circumstances, like a credit card. Hence the part where I suggested both Buyer and Seller inquire with PayPal to determine the situation. However, PayPal may also be able to cover for a shipping incident should it get lost in transit.

As I was at the post office today, they said they would not ship anything that big. The only way I could get around that would be to take the neck off the guitar and ship in a smaller box w/ no case.

Sounds to me like the box is too big. Big is no good for international. I realize you may not have a great selection but a few inches can easily be an extra $100 in international. Small and unpadded is no good either, but it's really up to the buyer to determine how much padding they're willing to pay for. I typically offer multiple sizes, depending on what I'm shipping.

See information here: http://pe.usps.gov/text/imm/immc2_011.htm under 231.22b
Use the online quote when dealing with USPS. When arranging a recent shipment, I got one price from the USPS online system. The sender got told exactly the same as what you did and was quoted significantly higher. When it came to actually going to USPS to ship, after I had paid extra, the sender was told that it would have to go Priority and it was pretty much in the middle of the two quotes. Make sure you go for the Priority shipping route. The system that USPS use appears to be pretty screwed up at times.

Re: Possible Jem 777lng for sale

When using the bigger couriers like UPS and TNT then size does play a major part.

I bought a JEM from USA that I collected last Saturday, in it's OHSC that was in a huge box completely filled with polystyrene to protect everything. Total shipping via USPS Priority was approx $130 insured to the $650 maximum for the Priority shipping option. I had taken out an insurance policy with world-wide cover prior to shipping so I wasn't too worried about anything going wrong.

Re: Possible Jem 777lng for sale

If I'm totally honest, I'd rather pay you the 400 bucks and get it sent by fed ex or dhl or something. More than once I've paid $130 for USPS to just dump a guitar in a warehouse for 2 weeks doing nothing. Fed Ex do it in about 3 days. Spending LNG type money on a guitar that collectable, I'm not gunna cheap out on the logistics...

Just a thought...
