Hey Rich,

With the Alder wood body being a natural wood (compared to the DBK I also use which has the 'processed manufactured' wood) there could have been inconsistancies in the wood opposing certain harmonic frequencies. As for the electronics, they were fine. As for the neck, it was one of the best necks I've played. I checked the wiring and the outputs, they were spot on.

The quick demo I gave to the rep to demonstrate the issue was - I got a 'light crunchy' sound (not a lead sound), and did a 6th fret harmonic on the G-string, pulled up on the bar, down on the bar and back up .... the note dies! With the 2000 DBK, and now my 2002 VBL (with Lo-Pro), I can strike the harmonic with the same light crunch sound, go up and down on the bar at least 5 times before the note dies off.

It would be good if you can try it.

Thanks
Lenny

In other words as long as you were playing it had full output but as soon as you'd hold a note it would die?

The VWH's I've played this year have all been sweet, definately no problems with sustain.

Yeah sort of Rich.

Almost as if something was intentionally dampening the string to stop the notes from ringing out.

Was it only the one string or all of them?

I'd bet you go play the next VWH that comes in there won't be anything wrong with it [that can't be corrected in a setup]

It was all strings Rich.

Artificials were died off on all strings.

I tried absolutely everything mate. Every trick, every harmonic, different sounds/setups.

All with a 90th Anniversary HAM, my 7Vwh, the DBK, and then when I got my new 7VBL, both the 7VBL and the BSB.

Unfortunately the 7Vwh was the only one that was stuffed. With the others, I could make any note absolutely scream off the neck.

I even had 'non guitarists' hear the problem in comparison to all the other JEMS.

Like I said, I wasted a lot of time trying to sort out the issue and get the 7Vwh playing correctly. (man, it's the guitar I actually want, and I played a 2000 model with a lo pro that I thought was fantastic ..... maybe I should have taken that one at the time!)

it's not too late to either sell or take back the vbl and get an 02 or earlier 7vwh

Unfortunately, the ibanez agency didn't have any pre 2003 7Vwh in stock.

That's why the next best things they had was a 2002 7VBL and 2000 BSB. They were the only 2 they sent to replace the white one.

By the way, the agency took the White one back (to resell to the public).

There were no stores in Australia that stocked them.

If I was the customer I'd have just waited until a good one came in next batch. If I was trying to figure out what it was [and it wasn't something obvious in a setup] I'd start swapping pieces to issolate the problem, but the first thing I'd swap is the electrics

I've had varied experiences with Australis.
Mostly good. I've found the Ibanez rep to be a pretty cool person. He was the one that got me my DNA for an amazing price.

Some of the people I've spoken to that answer the phones there can be a little unhelpful though. Went through a bit of a debacle with the RG421 (jap, fixed bridge) I wanted.

Ahh well, here's hoping you will be able to find a good VWH lenny.

wil..

It could be as simple as a cold solder joint from some newbie trainee that doesn't know his job yet. [and all it has to do to pass inspection is make noise obviously]
