Rare JEM prices way too high or not???

Right, I want everyones opinion here.

Over the last few months, I have seen some really mental prices being asked for rare JEMS like the DNA, PMC, 10th ann, GMC. Would you all pay $9000(4500GBP) for a DNA??? $5000(2500GBP) FOR A 10th ann??

I think JEMS are being priced stupidly high, but I admit I have paid way over the top for a JEM in the past.

It's all about supply and demand. If people will ignore those high priced guitars then prices might drop. or not. depands how bad the seller need the money or if he is just out to tease everyone. I think the wise thing to do is go by ibanezrules pricing of used guitars. again, if you feel you can't live without a guitar that is currently on sale and you have a few thousand dollars available then it's realy up to you.

While I personally do not feel the guitars are worth what they are bringing, if someone is willing to pay the price, then it is worth it.

If you're buying they're too expensive, if you're selling they're not expensive enough.

Like barbarelaxe said - supply and demand,

It doesn't surprise me. I was talking to someone that wanted $15,000 for a DNA that has never been played. He first said the price would be like 9, then he started climbing and climbing. The second he arrived at 15K, I started to laugh. More power to those people that get away with making that kind of revenue.

Re: Rare JEM prices way too high or not???

Well. Here's my thing...
I know, whatever someone is willing to pay is what they are worth and all that. And I also agree with it. But...
I follow Jem prices pretty closely and the last one that sold on Rich's site went for $6000 in near mint. The highest I have seen one on the bay get bid up to was $6900 and it was a really nice swirl and was in unplayed mint condition.
So I don't understand when people say "I know what these are worth and I want $9000." That is $2100 more than the highest price I have ever seen, and it was an infinitely nicer swirl. If you know what they are worth, why ask for 25% more than has ever been gotten for one. Wishful thinking? I guess, hell I don't know. I would want top dollar for mine too, so I am not knocking it, you can ask whatever you want when you own it, but I just don't get that logic. Maybe the logic is if I ask $9000 maybe I will get offered 7500 and they will think they are getting a great discount?

Good luck on the sale, seriously, but I don't get the logic.

Re: Rare JEM prices way too high or not???

Well I really feel they are over priced. Being that most of the part that makes them rare etc.. are just little things like a paint job. But it looks like people are willing to pay $6k for a paint job. Now if there was vast differences in rare jems vs no-rare then ok but...

I dont fall for the old "Supply demand" trick. If sellers didnt jack prices or pump them up then desire wouldnt be so bad, collectors wouldnt want them as much which inturn would keep prices low. As for them being so rare, why is it I see them on **** from time to time?

My drummer collects and plays Simmons drums from the 80's. He could buy full sets for way cheap but now with the 80's sound coming back people are buying them and selling and jacking price. Are they rare? NO! They do it because they can, not because supply and demand.

What would happen if demand was the same and price was normal? They would still be rare but sellers wouldnt make so much jack =)

Yet who was one of the first to reply to that $9000 DNA?

It is supply and demand, with a higher price structure. There used to be a lot always offered for sale which kept the prices down. Then there was a fairly long stretch where very few came on the market, and the prices shot up [at the same time the prices of everything else was escalating at the same rate] what used to be a $4000 DNA was now a $6500 DNA, which was no different than the FP that used to be $1250 bringing $1800. Now that they are bringing a lot more sellers want to be greedy and ask more than the going rate. Although it's not just sellers, it's also buyers. The last DNA I bid on was in Japan and I went to 720,000Y on it, and STILL underbid it, with 3 bidders over 700KY. And it's not like it was killer, it was just nice. For $9000 you better be offering filet mignon, not hamburger.

I enquired about it with a reasonable offer, not an offer $8000 0r $9000.

Re: Rare JEM prices way too high or not???

I don't realy know if it's wise to start translating pounds to dollars now that the us dollar value is droping. I spent the weekend in london for the guitar show and masterclass and it was really ridicules. For a 100$ you can get only 47 pounds or even less, depends where you try to change your money. I also went to denmark street and saw a used green uv in one of the stores. It was nowhere near mint and still no price tag on it. only a note saying do not touch, serious buyers only. I didn't dare to ask what they want for it.

I saw that the DNA that has been on **** was bid on last night, 6000 something was the bid.

Very cool guitars but since I play them like I stole them that is pointless for me to pay that kind of coin.

Yeah, but that one is in Australia and is 'pick-up only'. If he would ship it, he would be getting crazy action on it. And he only has 1 crappy pic. Wonder why he won't ship it?
