Reach Vai's sound with Jem 7? :s

Hello!!

I really would to know if some guys here could have a sound close to Vai's sound with the JEM 7?

It's obvious, it depends on what the jem is plugged in, but i really would to know!

Youtube shows with a 7vwh and the Gemini you can get pritty close.

He wasn't even using an Ibanez on some of his albums, which era tone are you after?

For me, the JEM7V gets his Alien Love Secrets tone pretty easily when plugged into a hi gain amp

I really loved the "Passion and warfare" era, but yes, i'm really looking for the distortion solo sound of "Tender Surrender" or "Die to live". It's really special and i love it!

I have a JEM 7v wh from 2004, and in few days i'll received my new amp: VOX AD 50 VT XL. Do you think that a modelisation amp can "hide" the sound of the guitar? Could I have a the sound i'm searching for with this amp?

If you're after the tones on things like Die to Live, then the JEM7V is the best place to start

Most modelling amps these days are pretty good at representing the amps they model, I'm not familiar with the Vox amp you've purchased, but I'd say find a high gain model (a Bogner or Soldano or similar) on their and play around until you get close to the tone. I'm really happy with my tone out of an old Line 6 spider, so a new modelling amp should be at least as good

The Vox I puchased is the same than the AD 50 VT, but XL series are designed for modern sounds, so I hope I 'll have a chance to grab this legendary sound

I would to know Jono...does the line 6 have the same sound with different guitars?? I mean that if i have a low price guitar and if I have a JEM, will the sound be different or not?

I think you should be able to get some pretty good Vai sounds out of the vox and a VWH. But I think Vai's tone really comes from his fingers. It's just how he squeezes and pinches the tone out of it rather than rely on his equipment for his sound. His rig really isn't that complicated, not like JP's of course.

Btw, i really need help about my new amp, should i take the vox AD 50 VT or the vox AD 50 VT XL?? XL series are better for modern sounds, so i should take it, but what about clean sounds as I am playin' funk/blues too??

i have vd50..there are inaf metal and hi-gain effects,they sound perfect,and i wreally dont need more. You should see if there are too many metal amp effects on xl,no clean or some middle efects,you should buy vd50. They are both quality amps.The best price-quality range,healty sound,not like line6 digitalised.
