Refinish MKR - sacrilege?

Hey, just a little straw poll... Would it be terribly sacrilegious to strip and refinish an MKR Universe?

And, if so, any recommendations on back-routed Universe (or Uni-like) bodies?

Sacrilige!!!!!!!!! Stupid!!!! Retarded!!!! Just plain wrong!!!! You gotta be crazy!!! Re finish a boring UV777BK, there's tons of them & nobody will care. Sell the MKR to someone who will appreciate such a fine work of art. Next you're going to tell us you beat kids & eat dogs ? Please don't do it !!!!!

Re: Refinish MKR - sacrilege?

I've thrown up stuff that looks better than some MKR's, who knows, maybe his is one of the really, really bad ones like the one GC has been trying to sell for $6000. As long as its not a ATD I say go for it, just be prepared for the guitars overall value to drop considerably.

Lets see pictures of it first though.

Re: Refinish MKR - sacrilege?

Swirls are so particular, even if its the worst looking piece of barf youre bound to find someone willing to spring 3k+ for it... As long as its in good shape, few dings, no chips, etc...

That should give you enough cash to have someone build you something you do like

A MKR swirl is still a swirl!

Don't ruin it... that would be like making a graffitti on a Ferrari!

It's a UVMC , an Ibanez Universe 7-string guitar with a one of a kind swirl paint job.... rare....rare, RARE!!!!! It's a freakin work of art even if it isn't an ATD swirl.

MKR stands for "'Mustard Ketchup and Relish", an unofficial nod to the dominant colors on these particular swirls. Long story short, back when the first swirled Universes were being made, Ibanez decided to make a bunch themselves in Japan, I would assume to save either time or money and the MKR units were what resulted. They were initially rejected by Steve Vai since they were rather different, but a number of them were sold regardless. They're pretty darn rare, though exactly how rare is still a matter of some debate.

Re: Refinish MKR - sacrilege?

why would you do it?
go sell your guitar and
buy some parts from a well known site.
then you save money and have/make the guitar you really like.
but hey?its your guitar!do what you like!
