Restoring colour?
I recently got a Jem555 that needs some sorting out, and I was wondering if anyone knows how to restore colour where it has gone from white to yellow in places?
Also any tips on hiding scratches?
Thanks!

You could get get it buffed which is all I would worry about. It will clean some of the scratches up. Personally I think your being too critical about the yellowing. They just turn that color. hell look at evo.

the yellowing is the actual white paint yellowing, basically to remove that you need a fresh paint job.

Well, I guess that JEM555WHs didnt have the same paint as the JEM7VWHs? The 7VWH's are saposed to stay white forever right(unless its super dirty..)?

I love the way my PGM300 has yellowed- nice vintage vibe to go with the f-holes
. Think of it as a blessing!
As for the 7VWH- I believe that had a (maple?) laminate over the alder to prevent the yellowing. I doubt that same precaution would have been taken with the 555.

The 7VWH's laminate is basswood.

the laminate isn't to prevent yellowing, it's to try to avoid the wood grain showing through as alder moves on the VWH. The 555 is basswood so it wouldn't need the laminate. Case in point, the UV7PWH is basswood and it still yellowed. It's the paint they use, the 555 I wouldnt' think should yellow, unless it's been in a smoky environment or something though.

Thanks for clearing that up Jeremy- I thought there was a thread here a while ago though about the basswood laminate supposedly preventing the yellowing or at least delaying the yellowing process...

don't expect the yellowing to go away unless it's smoke stains on the clear, even then I wouldn't expect much, you'll remove some scratches with a cutting compound, but that's about it. Be careful or it'll go through in a hurry if you're power polishing too.

I thought the finish on the UVPWH was an "antique white." In catalog shots, the finish always looks a little more "yellow" than the pickguard.
