Sanding the Lion's claw

I'm starting on my Jem project today. Body and neck from Legacy One. (Thanks Chris) I'll start a separate thread for it and show my progress.

Question, what is the easiest way to sand the lion's claw? it's a little rough, and I'm looking for some experience with it before I waste a lot of time reinventing the wheel. Thanks for any suggestions.

ah, wished I would have thought about that. thanks for the insightful response.

Sometimes you can rig up a dowel or something for small places. I have man sized hands and my fingers do not fit in the lion route. Just curious if someone other than smart guy here has devised anything to fit into the route.

The program that routed it should be tight enough you're just cleaning up frags. A 3M scuff pad should be all you need.

You might get splinters so always use protection when your fingering frags.

Thanks Rich, I'll check one out. I wasn't having success with just sandpaper and my finger. Your right, just need to fine tune it a bit.

Not looking forward to putting sand sealer in there either and smoothing it out. But without it, it isn't going to look good.

A drumstick and some 320grit sand paper will do just nicely. Instead of spraying 4000 coats of sealer into that end grain just mix up some 2 part epoxy and paste it in there. It will make the little fins in between the claws stronger and will make the finish smoother.

Thanks Factory. I was hoping the sealer would do the trick, but that sounds even better. I knew there was a better mousetrap out there!
