scallop a nate perle neck

So, I am finally working on my project jem that's been set aside for too long. Anyone suggest any tips for scalloping the last 4 frets? I've never done this and don't want to ruin a 400 dollar guitar neck.

use a 1\4 inch round file and start center and be careful.
too deep and you will hit the side marhers and go through inlay.

ok thanks, were would i find measurements? like how deep to go ect?

In reality it doesn't take all that much, maybe a few millimeters. I learned this the hard way scalloping the neck on my Squier i.e. no more fret markers.

Oh god, i don't know if I should or not... Im nervous and I don't want to wreck the neck. Haha I also don't want to spend a few hundred getting a luthier to do it.

Can't beat practising on another neck! I bought the cheapest guitar I could find last month as a kinda "learning tool" and am finding out allsorts by trial and error lol. Made a start on the high fret scallops and realised I don't have the right size file for that, so mental note made and shopping list updated!

I'd say don't bother if you're not confident. Practise makes perfect!

Huh. I honestly didn't know fret markers went that deep. I though they were just super thin pieces that had to be replaced after scalloping. Learn something new every day...

Invisible kids got a good point. I wanted to scallop my jem70v neck but have been worried about messing up the inlay. It would be damn cheap to just get a broken squier off Craigslist and give it a go first. I think I'll do that
