screw rust!

I have noticed recently that the gold screws on my jem7vwh are rusting! Mainly the ones holding on the pick guard. Has anyone else had this problem? can anyone suggest a remedy?

Take them out and swap them with the screws holding your trem cavity plate and the output jack plate.

You can put a little earl on them. I usually clean my bridge with a toothbrush and a few drops of gun oil. It keeps the rust off! I'm not sure what it would do to the gold plating, but they wouldn't rust.

I'm experiencing rusted screws on my Fender at the moment... also my humbucker pickup is rusting a bit. You say that by applying nail polish to the rusted spots, the rust will be gone? Will there be any damage? Is it safe?

first use some fine emery to basically sand the rust off, then coat the metal with clear nailpolish, it's perfectly safe.

surly sanding the screws on a VWH would sand off the gold plating also

If I coated my pickups with nailpolish right after I bought my JEM, would they be protected for X number of days from rust?

yes on both questions, if you sanded the VWH screws the gold would come off. Pretty well need new screws. If you put the nail polish on right away, it will be fine. All the nail polish is is a clear coat, it just protects from sweat and grime and crap.

I've used 'NOXON 7- Metal Polish' on masked frets and pickups, and it has removed the rust from both. Not sure what it would do on a gold-plated item, though. Unsure if an ammonia-based product would interact with the gold.

How often would you recommend re-coating my pickups?

I'll be honest, I've had my VWH 3 years now, and the pickups aren't rusting at all. I don't think you need to worry about it that much, it's not that humid up here (now that I know where you live heheh)
