Selling an old, broken, retired Jem (question)

Here's the deal: I've got an old Jem 555, an original run from 1994. The weird thing about it is that it's supposedly a prototype because of how early it was manufactured. It is indeed more of an 'odd' Jem because the markings and everything on this guitar is a bit different than the other Jem 555s made in 1994. It was a 'rough' run, so to say. The trem is broken down and it's in need of a huge tuneup, so it's really a fixer-upper altogether.

My question is this: Considering that this thing is completely broken down and it needs a complete makeover, would it be wiser to sell it 'as is' - as in one single piece, of try and sell the body and neck separately, and the pups as well, and just trash the damned trem?

Are you sure its not a fake, by chance? A photo would be cool if possible.

Re: Selling an old, broken, retired Jem (question)

Not a fake, 100% . I bought this at the beginning of 1999 from a local guitarist. Chibanez guitars weren't around then. I don't recall where the guy got it from but he seemed to know his stuff really well, and he's the one that mentioned that it's a prototype, etc. I actually posted about it more than once and no one else could figure it out either, so I honestly don't want to turn this thread into that again . I went over it, checked for inconsistencies to real/fake ones, and it's definitely authentic. I did research on it over time and only turned up a SINGLE other like it, with the guy asking the same exact questions that I am.

Regardless though, if you've got a guitar that needs a major tuneup with the trem not working at all, do you think you could get more for it selling it all together, or breaking it up into sections which would be Body, Neck, Pups?

Alright alright!

Here's a pic, but really, I just want an answer to whether or not it'd be more wise to beak it up or sell it together.

Yeah, I wasn't quite sure because of that. The thing is that I can sell the neck, body, and pups separate and all of that may have added up to be more than selling it all together. I've got PAF Pros for the pups, so I was thinking it'd turn out to be a bit more in the end since the pickups are maybe the best thing about it.

I am going to say that you should break it up. Even 555 necks get decent prices. The stamp in the neck pocket should show that it is legit.

That's exactly what I was thinking. And yeah, neck pocket was checked. The serial # on the back of the headstock and the neck pocket and everything else as well - it all matches up. Breaking it up and getting cash for the neck, the body, and the PAF Pros separately can possibly go for more.

We'll see though.
