Serial numbers on a PMC - dont understand them!

New to Jemsite so first like to say hi!
I didn't think there were so many people out there into jems, anyway my question. I have a pmc with the serial number starting 90. now i know pmc's were made 92/93
and i was under the impression that Ibanez first numbers were year dates so now i am a little confused

Typically you're right, first 2 numbers are the year. But I had a PMC (sold last month) that also had the 90' plate. I was, and still am at a loss as to why. Possibly they ran out of plates when they were assembled in the US (happened on other models) and had to resort to some plates they had in stock. Best explanation that I can come up with anyway.

thanks for info, would have thought that a jem with such a short production run they would have kept better tabs on them
