She's Alive, Alive... (Custom DNA)
After many months of love, care and attention, she is now alive... I've always wanted a DNA but it's high price and low availability made it an aspirational dream. So I decided to build as close a replica as possible and I couldn't be more happy with it.
The guitar was built to spec, had a guy build the body and swirl it with the same colors minus the blood. Everything else is premium, Breed pickups,
Edge Trem
, top of the line electronics, etc.. Only the neck came from a 570rg.
This baby plays like a dream and looks awesome. It looks much better than the pictures show. The room is not that well lit and I didn't want to use the Flash since it masked the warmth of the colors. Anyway, you can get a good idea of what it looks like.
Many thanks to those who contributed by supplying the many necessary parts, a special thanks to Rich for being most helpful. Without further adue I present to you "Frida".

With an interesting inlay work it would be a killer guitar!
Very nice swirl!

Re: She's Alive, Alive... (Custom DNA)
Definetly get an inlay job... no shiny vines or pyramids, id go with "cheap lookin Ibanez pyramids", or for full effect, the DNA "vine"...
try and get a NOS DNA pickguard somewhere, too
and i love how you chose an original Edge (i guess from the same 570 the neck came from)
CONGRATS MAN!!!

Re: She's Alive, Alive... (Custom DNA)
Pyramid inlays
are the best option. That way you wont have to make major work on the neck (like replacing the whole freatboard). You may have to fill a couple of dots, but for the most part the pyramids will thake their place. Besides, its the less complicated alternative, and probably the one that would look better.
Did I say it has a VERY cool swirl?

Re: She's Alive, Alive... (Custom DNA)
I know, I know, needs some better inlays. I need to find someone, preferrably locally, who can do a good job without charging me an arm and a leg. Right now the whole thing cost me just under 1K. I've been pretty patient waiting for the right parts at the right price. I'm just happy that I can at least play her. I'll get her "neck enhancement surgery" soon. First, she needs to earn some $$$.

Re: She's Alive, Alive... (Custom DNA)
yeah but do the dna vine because its more unique and is deserving of a guitar that looks that cool

Re: She's Alive, Alive... (Custom DNA)
You can always improve on a design (well, not allways anyway). The DNA inlay looks much more complex to do. And Im not sure its even as good as the pyramids.

Nice swirl, great price. Not bad at all!!
If it were me, I'd skip the pickguard. Why drill all those wholes in the guitar?

Re: She's Alive, Alive... (Custom DNA)
Very Nice!! I did the same thing for the same reasons.. Even if I had a real DNA, I'd never take it out anywhere for fear of... well.... You know. ANYTHING happening to it! I want to PLAY it.
I also had an RG570 donor, and love the neck! Who did your swirling?

I know, but i was thinking the risk of picking damage to such a beautiful thing would scare me, and the original DNA pickguard is too damn cool
