Should I make this trade?

Sorry if I am posting in the wrong forum, but I dont think I am

Someone locally is offering his UV777BK Universe for my 1 year old mac macbook. At least I think thats what it is, with the pyramids on the neck and the body, and the silver pickguard. I honestly dont really use the mac at all, and have been looking for a jem or universe guitar for a little bit now, but funds are low. This kinda seems like the move for me.

The body has a small nick in the horn, and a small chip in the headstock, just from normal wear and tear I guess. The guitar is about 3 years old. I saw pics of it, and it seems like its in good shape, besides those 2 things. The poles on the pickups, as far as the pictures show, can use a little polish also.

What do you guys think? I am going to meet him today, so if it goes through, I will post pics, but just curious, and I am sure the answers I get will be biased here, of course , but just an honest opinion. Go for it?

Thanks!!!

Yeh, I would. The UV777BK is an awesome guitar. Plus if you're not using macbook, then why not. Plus it's going to be worth **** in a couple of years, whereas your Universe will still be worth a good price.

And don't forget to post pics if you make that trade Good luck.

Re: Should I make this trade?

Your MacBook is probably worth around $1000 at most (if its black and has a Core 2 Duo) on the used market. So I'd say its a no-brainer granted that the Universe is authentic and not a "beater".

Before you make the trade make sure the Universe is authentic. I've come across so many fakes while shopping for Ibanez guitars. It has to be the most faked company on earth.

Re: Should I make this trade?

The macbook is actually a core duo 1. Not a 2.

If you guys dont mind, can you give a quick pointer on how to spot if its a fake at all?

Thanks again all

Looks real to me, but I'm sure others can also confirm either way. Ask him for the serial number.

Is that a gouge or glare near the volume knob?

Re: Should I make this trade?

That's real.

Snag it. Like Gurj says, the laptop will be worth nothing in a couple of years whilst the guitar with almost certainly retain it's value.

Re: Should I make this trade?

The guitar has a lo pro bridge, which is a good thing but means the guitar is at least 5 years old, not 3. I would trade with him if he was willing to give $100 cash also. I just sold my MINT UV for 1K. From the pictures, that guitar has issues, although cosmetic in nature.

On the other hand if you really don't use the computer, then just trade.

Good Eye, LuredMaul!! That exactly what it was, stupid sticker pick holder.

Anyway, I want you guys to know that I have completed the trade a little while ago!! I am pretty freaking out that this happened, as it just came out of the blue, while I was posting stuff on C-list. I am trying to be calm, but, MAN!!!! THE GUITAR ROCKS!!!! I was suprised when I saw it, that the pictures that I have posted, really make the small dings look large, but it is knowwhere near as bad as the pics show, as it looks enlarge in the photo. I saw the guitar, and I said to myself, "thats it?" I was expecting much worse!!

The serial number is F9756xxx, so I guess it is a 98 model, as It seems this wasnt made in 97, maybe just produced, and released in 98. Thats my best guess.

THe pickups on this thing are really good, heavy, ballsy tones out of them. They are stock, so I am assuming they are the Dimarzio Blaze models? I think thats what was stock then, or please correct me if I am wrong.

Anyway, tomorrow I am taking it to my tech for a little Tender Loving Care, get a setup, and maybe glue that tip of the headstock, so the chip wont spread. Maybe I will change out the screws on the faceplate, as they seem a little old. Just cosmetic stuff, really. Even in its current state, it plays great. What a wonderful neck.

Only thing that sucks is he forgot the trem bar at home, so he will mail it to me, no big deal.

Anyway, I am super excited, so excited, that it hasnt even hit me yet! Thanks for the encouragement all, and I can finally say I own a Jem-quality guitar!!!
