Signature on back plate?

I am going to a Vai concert in September, and I would like to get the back plate of my DBK signed that night (so I don't have to bring the whole guitar with me). I wanted to find out what other folks have used as far as a writing instrument that will work effectively and perminently on the black plastic plate.

Re: Signature on back plate?

I'm sure any permanent marker will work.
As for protecting it you could clear coat it.

Any marker should do, yeah.

To save clear coating it you could just get a replacement plate for the guitar and keep the signed one safe.

Re: Signature on back plate?

Thanks for the feedback, and yes, I can get one of those markers, but my back plate is "black"... so a black marker won't do the job. For that matter, either will blue or red or green, etc. Really I need to get a white marker... and I have not seen a white one around anywhere!

Thanks for the tip on the clear coat... will definitely do that.

LOL, now that is a good one... why didn't I think of an ice-pick... or is that "awl" I need ;-).

Hey thanks for that link... I have never seen that silver one in stores... I will have to check it out more closely, maybe order one from the counter! Awesome!

Thanks guys,
Brent.

That's what he used to sign the 15th FPs. I took mine of the guitar and replaced it.
