Signed Jems
wanted to see what every1's thoughts were.
first off,
awhile back when JS had his guitar center sessions, i remember shortly afterwards there was like an explosion of
signed
memorabilia selling for loads of money on the bay, and then there are sites like
http://www.signedrock.com/catalog_se...15&top_nivel=Y
and
http://www.hardrockstageproductions....ink=index.html
(my question and point lol)
now recently steve signed my jem (and it means alot to me), but as far as value to my jem am i gonna be able to sell it for twice as much because
STEVE VAI
signed it lol
i figure having an artist signature really shouldnt add value to an object but lol looking at those websites makes me wonder.
(i searched but didnt find this question yet =D )

with that logic, my UVGR would be 4x than what I got it for since Vai, Satch, Petrucci, Sheehan all signed the back
But that's not the case... I'm keeping that axe, therefore, priceless :P
I would guess these signed guitars are meant for people who are not "guitar players" but have enough income to use one of these guitars for uhm "display purposes" i suppose.

Re: Signed Jems
my jem is signed by yngwie malmsteen but i dont supose it makes the guitar any more valuble.unless a yngwie fanatic wanted to buy it then i might get £50-£100 on top of what its really worth.depends on who wants to buy your signed guitar i supose.still its a cool thing getting your axe signed by a famous guitarist.

Re: Signed Jems
A sig should add maybe $50 bucks to the price, tops. If a seller thinks a signature adds more than that (especially in the case of a living person who still has functioning hands) then they should keep it.

I have a number of signed things, which also includes a signed Jem, a signed Boston album, and a signed Doors album.

It's not the "play fender" guitar is it?
Seriously though, I think that unsigned jems are rarer. Unless a guitar has EVO or FLO written on it, it really isn't worth amnything more.
I have a signed, mostly destroyed "lasher" body that I am restoring. Even when it is rebuilt it wont be worth anything.

Re: Signed Jems
There is a guy on 3bay who buys tons of $100 squire strats, gets famous people to sign them, and then tries to sell them for some ridiculous price.

Re: Signed Jems
This topic has come and gone a number of times already. The short version is that about two thirds think it actually hurts the value, a third think it is the same or marginally higher value, and a few wackos think they will make a fortune. With the exception of special issues (the LNG for example), there's WAY too much signed stuff out there now for it to be worth anything more than about $5. Personally I wouldn't buy a guitar with someone's scribbling on it, even if it was from Satch or Vai (... well maybe if Joe wanted to doodle me up a blackdog ...). Get your guitar signed because you like it that way, not to make money off the sale because you probably won't.

Re: Signed Jems
I got Steve to sign my JEM77FP at an autograph session he did at the Virgin Megastore in Vancouver B.C. I removed the clear pick guard before hand and I got him to sign it there so it would never get smudged or worn off. To me it's irrelevant if it adds any value as I am the original owner (1991) and I never plan on selling it.
