sound problem Jem

Everyone knows the most unique clean sound of the Jem that you get in 'position 2'. This is the middle pickup and the coiltapped bridgehumbucker.

I own 3 jems. My 777DY sounds strange. This position sounds so silent, I mean very silent and too sharp. I know there is something wrong because I can compare it tho 2 other Jems.

Do I have a wire problem or does my humbucker's coiltapping sucks?

I'm guessing that by 'silent' you mean 'quiet'.

Very possible a wire came loose or unsoldered. It's an easy fix.

maybe you have a dirty pickup selector switch. try flipping the switch a couple of times.

If you bought it used, check and see that the pickups are wired like the two properly-functioning Jems you have. Maybe the bridge and middle pickups are out of phase. Possibly a new switch may help too. I think I have replaced switches on most of my Jems from that period. Just use and abuse, they get dirty and the contacts get worn...

experiment

I opened my guitar and there were no cables wrong or not attached. I did check the diagrams and on this website and compared and nothing was wrong. I tried some things like changing two cables so that the position 2 and 5 changed. In the normal 2 position, the sound I created was that of position 5 and vice versa and now it was position 5 who was broken!!!

So it is NOT the switch, in my opinion.
The Humbucker and the singlecoil, apart, work good. It must be that the coil tapping doesn't work?

So, the pickups work fine on their own? Position 3 is just the single coil and it's sounding normal, and position 1 is the bridge hummer and BOTH coils are running loud?

Position 1 and 3 on their own work perfect. Only the combination (position 2) don't work correct.

If the 'coil tapping wires' of the humbucker didn't work, position 1 can NOT be working correct. So this is not the problem.

The reason for this you can see on the diagram. The ending cable from the first coil of the humbucker and the beginning cable from the second coil of the humbucker are attached together and mounted to the switch.

So the switch works, the pickups work on their own but not together. Maybe a phase-problem...

wow, thanx for the tip. Yesterday I sent a mail to Dimarzio and today I received already an answer...and the answer is right!!!!
Dimarzio has such a great customer support. Dimarzio forever.

My humbucker is fine. The problem is the singlecoil. I did have to swap the 2 wires from the singlecoil.

Thanks a lot,
