Special Jems
Hi Guys,
Ive got a question for you. Is there any chance during 2003 that any special edition / limited runs of the jem are going to hit the stores (you know, like the DNA did in 2K?) Thanks for ya help!

I haven't even heard any rumours of any!
I am personally not expecting anything along those lines from Ibanez.
In fact my clicking on the sponsors of Jemsite above it would be possible to build your very own special edition jem.
Best wishes
Simon

I don't think so cause there is no anniversary or another special event like Y2K.

Yeah, we'll get a Jem20 in 2006, and JEM100HAM in2008.
Maybe a
chrome JEM
with sustainer and piezo will see the light of day on aroun 2004.
"keeping my fingers crossed"
Also I'm hoping that there will be a 7D with
maple neck
out soon.
Note:
All these are speculations and chancess are most of you know a lot more than me anyway.

I wouldn't expect anything. Last year would've been the 15th anniversary of Vai's involvement with Ibanez and this year is the 15th anniversary of the JEM but at least we saw a new model/color. I wouldn't expect a collectors edition until at least 2006 and there for 07 and 08 are always possibilities. Start saving.
I'd be interested and I hope there is a collector's UV but I don't know how much of a market there would be for that judging by the current climate. Production runs would have to be small and that will create it's own appeal which will be reflected in the price (up). Also, if there was an anniversary UV, what year do you base it upon? The Ibanez/Steve Vai seven-string concept came about in 1988. Prototypes in Whitesnake videos were seen in 1989. The UV went into production in 1990. It was discontinued for a year and was reborn in 1995 (date check on this one). So you could do what Ibanez did in 1996 and have an anniversary based on the year of the project's initiation. You could base it on the first year of production. You could base it on the year of production +1 to make up for the year it wasn't available. And, of course, you could base it on the year it was reintroduced marking however many years of continuous production. I'd get one if I can afford it.

Does no one care about the Ultra JEM? I mean, this thing's barely been given any talk at all. What's up? This is big news!

what's the deal with it? You are the first person I've heard mention it...
I had to order a new Jem7VWH a week or so ago, and while talking to the guy at ibanez, I had asked if he had any ideas about NAMM...if he heard anything new. Now, obviously, he ain't gonna volunteer anything, but his answer was basically that even the sales staff and most of Ibanez aren't told ANYTHING until they get to NAMM and then they are given the scoop on what details are the sellers for what's new. Simply because they know how info spreads overnight these days. So, only Vai and the suits know I guess....

Vai mentioned it a while ago. Basically it's a JEM with
piezo bridge
, sustainer system (I think), built in midi pickup, and a built in midi effects unit.

It was in an interview a while ago. He mentioned the mother of all jems. With sustainer and all the other cool gizmo's he uses. He didn't talk about the midi stuff tho.
He also mentioned once something about an accoustic Jem.
