Yes, Steve's guitars have had many necks, including the 555.

i think it was because at one point he wanted a rosewood fretboard and he was using ebony or something and the only rosewood jem necks he had were from 555's so he used that one.

He was waiting for his 7v neck in rosewood to arrive during that time so he uses the 555.

Not at all, he simply preferred the feeling of that neck (which was on FLo at the time).
That neck was used for quite a while (few years).

He has another Jem with a 555 neck.

"POGO" If I remember correctly, because I have a poster of Vai with POGO and am pretty sure it's a 555 neck

Could be, a lot of neck switches have happend. Pogo had a normal neck when it was given away to Roger Bell though.

G had a 555 neck and I believe that one got renamed a few times to POX and now Roxy and was a throw-around axe for in the Mothership studio, you can see it here, 3rd and 4th pic.. the black one is a complete 555.

Actually it wasn't "POGO" on my poster but "POX", which is also illustrated here :

Anyhow he seeems to have fiddled quite a bit with the 555 necks at some point.

Re: steve vai using 555 neck ! :O

i take it that the 555 necks he used on some of his guitars were custom necks by ibanez because they have the dot inlay at the 24th fret, not "steve vai"?

No, just ordinary 555 necks, although he had the 'Steve Vai' inlay removed and replaced by a piece of rosewood & two dots, if you look carefully, you'll see that on most pics of FLo, that part is slightly lighter colored wood.

Last year, when I still had my JEM555BK (sold to fund an UV7BK) I used to love the feel of the neck.
With proper setup, the guitar played very very good, indeed.
