Re: SWIRLING A GUITAR

I also picked up some Neon Automotive paint and had bad results. I am using House of Kolor Neon Green and Neon pink. They seem to just clump, or if I thin them a bit I get better results, but not what I need. All the other auto paint I am using is fine.

Since everyone is being so forthcoming at this point, how do you get the little white spots in the blacks that make it look like a galaxy?

When you spray those paints on a car, you never just spray them straight. There are special thinners and reducers that go with them. I'm no expert on this, but HOK sells a lot of products that go beyond the actual paint. You're probably missing one of those.

Easy. When you pour the black paint down on the water, take the white paint and basically flick it at the surface in very small droplets. Then swirl in the rest of your colors. In that way only the black will have the galaxy effect.

I have some standard reducer, but maybe I do need HOK reducer. I will look into it and let everyone know what I find out. Also, I am doing a straight paintjob with the HOK Neons. Will post some pics when thats done too!

Re: SWIRLING A GUITAR

Depending on what color you're after, the HOK neons may not really be what you want. They are REALLY neon from what I understand. From what I understand the "straight from the can" versions of most primary colors are extremely bright. This is a car that belongs to a friend of mine that is painted a pearl yellow based on a pure yellow base coat. My understanding is that this is not a neon paint.

This car is extremely bright yellow. People call it the Highlighter Mobile. It's really pretty amusing. The car is so bright that it attracts insects to it at dusk. As a joke we took a picture of my friend "touching up" the car with a yellow highlighter.

Well ive gone through some of this thread and there are all kinds of ideas/techniques discussed. You need to pick one of them, and go with it. There are alot of intangables involved, and you will never figure them out by looking at a computer.

This is where i started, and it will get you there(with ALOT of practice)http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/swirled.htm

Re: SWIRLING A GUITAR

I agree with a previous statement of how so many say "It's easy, you just have to experiment"

My theory - why re-invent the wheel? Would it be so hard for someone to just say what paint brand they are using? I've tried HOK and had NO luck! I've tried 1shot - again poor results. I've tried what everyone says NOT to use - Testors and had the BEST results. I've tried Rustoleum Enamels from Menards - still not the right results. That video everyone looks at appears to be Humbrol cans, but don't know for sure. And around me they are pretty hard to come by.

If you give the brand away - your not going to have a bunch of pro swirlers out there. There still are a lot of variables for people to figure out. So why not help each other out, and SHARE! And even when someone figures it out, there is art involved, which many people may not be able to master.

Any swirlers intersted in how the Holoflash technique is done? Trade ya secrets! Wait, I posted a complete how to on another forum.

Just because I have the sheet music to some Vai songs, doesn't mean I am going to outsell him, or out play him! Same goes for the swirl secret. Chances are, most on here will do a one off, and that's it...if they even decide to go that far.

Some will say they spent so much time, and expereiments, etc...yada,yada,yada...I spent 2 years figuring out the Holoflash "secret". On again off again, not 2 years straight...just sold one online too. I would gladly share this "secret" if Id on't, they will eventually find someone else with the right answers - so why not share now? And see what type of work they do?

Share your creative information people! It's how things in life get better!

So what brands are you successful people using?

Sorry I can't post images or links yet...not active enough...

Re: SWIRLING A GUITAR

Try the search button for what kind of paint to use for swirling. This topic has been done dozens of time before and has dozens of different answers.

Darren from ATD made his own paint by using chemicals, or so he said on this site, just to make sure his quality was always top notch.

There seems to be no "one right answer" for this one.

Re: SWIRLING A GUITAR

May I ask - Do you swirl? If the answer is yes, then you were just beating around the bush by not telling me what YOU use.

NO ONE has speciafially said what they use, except for Andyt - stating he has used 1Shot and something else. I have tried 1Shot with bad results. So I want to compare to what others are using. Maybe there is a brand that works better than another, with less effort, or possiblities for error. Many have said what they have TRIED, and commented on the poor results. They never followed back up to say they got it working, or they didn't. And if I can avoid a wild goose chase of finding and buying all kinds of brands of paint - it would be great!

I have done the search. I have read every Swirl post on here, as well as ProjectGuitar. People are just not sharing...

Re: SWIRLING A GUITAR

Rodzo, read this thread: http://www.jemsite.com/forums/f21/ch...irl-81109.html

Then read this one: http://www.jemsite.com/forums/f29/sw...rls-81461.html

Then ask yourself who you sound like.

Then reach your own conclusion as to why people don't share.
