Re: SWIRLING A GUITAR

Very helpful - thank you senior! Now once I get a few more posts I can actually posts pictures!

With the spray, are you just spraying some into a cup, then pouring? isn't that messy?

I'll try reducing the 1Shot more...I'm wondering if I need more borax as well. I did a small test of putting my 50/50 reduced black 1Shot into a small bucket of water with NO borax. All it did was go to the side and attach itself to the bucket. With the paint still in there, I poured a good amount of borax in, stirred it a little - and the paint spread like in the YouTube videos. Still greasy looking however.

I am also wondering - I saw a picture on here of a swriled guitar on a swirled cloth for the background...is there any chance of it being material paint being used? The colors on the fabric matched that of the guitar perfectly. I know you can do fabric with auto paint...Can you?

6 more posts and I can start adding pictures.

Re: SWIRLING A GUITAR

Should I take this to a NEW topic??? My progress and experiemnts...instead of this long paged one with many things in it?

I have already pissed some people off - so I don't want to annoy everyone by starting a fresh topic on this, and my trials and errors - in detail...

I'd suggest you start your own thread. hopefully disagreements will stay here and give your experiments a fresh start.

I think that regardless of peoples' attitudes when talking about how to do a good swirl, pretty much everyone here like to see a good swirl

Spray the paint on the water and have all your colors ready.spray one after another quickly, make a design and dip.and wear a respirator.

Re: SWIRLING A GUITAR

I'll give it a try and see what happens. Still sounds messy, and not as precise as Iw ould imagine it to actually be done. Have you actually done this before? I have seen video's where guys spray it into the cap, and then pour it in?

(Once I have enought posts to get pics up - I'll take all this into it's own thread...)

Re: SWIRLING A GUITAR

“I use modeling paints from Hobby Lobby. Half of these paints don't even work.”

Yes - very helpful. Thank you for that. I would assume you mean Testors since you didn't state the brand.

I will have to give them another chance. I have stayed away from them since most everyone says NOT to use them. My earlier post states I tried them, and they worked, but the color selction was not the greatest. Then I was told to try the spray.

I'm going to give the 1Shot another try tonight.

Thanks for the compliment as well!

Never mind what paints to use.

Rodzo, I'm looking forward to seeing your results and you sharing what you use. I know some of the guys here do swirl for a living, but it'll be good to now what someone who does it for fun ends up using

And guys (looking at RG462) keep it civil.
B&Q dude.

Actually you can find loads of large tanks all over the place.

Re: SWIRLING A GUITAR

sorry to say i'm using a real large tank for my swirls.
500 liters actually!!!
That workspace means more control over the paint and more space to throw in the body into the water.

Tubarão: excelentes swirls! Não consigo escolher um preferido.
Essa UV está brutal... ainda te mando um corpo para o BR para me fazeres um swirl!

And in english: excellent swirls! I can't choose a favourite.
