I'm going to guess at either the fact that this will gain media coverage (as seen in that youtube clip and the picture of them all that was on Vai.com) and what better guitar to be using for that than the new mystery JEM? (if this in fact is the mystery JEM)
Or as it isn't his own recording, I'm sure he's not going to go to every measure to get that "Vai" sound perfectly.

Or maybe that guitar is just the one he's prefering to play at the moment, we all know how guitarists get sometimes!

EDIT: After re-watching that clip, the trem doesn't look very revolutionary at all so I wouldn't say it's that
Also, Orianthi's really growing on me. A matter of months ago I couldn't stand her voice or her "pop" music, now I like both

I'm actually slowly getting more and more intrigued by this guitar, at first it didn't bother me too much but now I want to find out more!

Well, it's highly questionable whether these views are any better than the first one, but what the heck.

First, we can clearly see a monkey grip and, I'm 99% sure, the edge of a clear pickguard.



The next two are just the best shots of the body I could extract and also show what certainly appears to be a chrome Edge and possibly a hint of a lion's claw.

Judging by the pics so far, I'd say it's gonna be cool. I still would have liked it better if it differed more from the first one than this one apparently does, though.
