The 30 Fret guitar - I'm looking for it

Hi, I was wondering if ANYONE here remembers a Vai guitar, that had about 30 frets on it. This was at least a couple years ago i think. I haven't been able to find it and the idiots at guitar center were trying to tell me it doesn't exist. But i've known a couple other people who say they remember it and it's only $800. If somebody here knows the exact make/mode/year of that guitar and knows how to get it, PLEASE email me or just reply here. Thanx all.

I suppose you mean this guitar?

The frets on this guitar have an alternate scale, making the 16th fret the octave.
This guitar was used on "Down Deep Into The Pain" from "Sex & Religion"

This particular guitar is where Steve's "Xavian" scale derived from.

Of course, this sucker was made by Steve Ripley.

I could be totally wrong, but didn't Vai use samples for that?

* * Here are some of Michael Angelo's extended fretboard guitars.
* * I know Uli Jon Roth has some crazy fretboards that go all the way to his bridge pickup. *One is fretless. *On the fretted one though, the frets get so small that eventually he had to put them in whole tone increments rather than half tones, but the notes that are omitted on one string can be found on another. *Crazy.
* * However, I think the only really common extended fretboard guitar you're going to find is a Hamer. *I want to say it's the Californian, but I'm not sure. *It has 29 frets. *

I once saw a picture of an Ibanez seven string with 30 frets on this forum.
Go here for a picture of it:

Marshall Harrison is the owner.
Pretty good player too ...

Cheers,

There's also Mattias Eklundh's nutty Apple Horn guitar:

Though that's 'only' 27 frets. Mattias and Vai's paths have crossed more than once, what with Favored Nations releasing Matt's solo album and stuff, so I wondered if Steve may have been using this?

I'll also take this opportunity to urge anyone unfamiliar with Eklundh's work to check out Freak Kitchen, his impossibly good band. Solos like you won't believe and he's got a really cool voice too.

That is all.

Yep, Washburn produced an EC29 & EC36. I have the EC36 and there is hardly any fret board between the 35 and 36 frets.
