The 7VWH psyched me out!

Well a while ago I tried my first JEM. Whilst I wasn't particularly fond of the flashy hardware and inlays, the guitar was hands down the best I've ever played. It made me play so much better, I couldn't believe it. It's not like I have crappy gear and I've tried most of the high end Gibsons, Fenders, PRS, ESP and Caparison. In playability, there was just no comparison. The only thing I would change are the pickups, I think they lack dynamics which I need.

Now I'm quite torn because I can buy a new one for almost the same price as a second hand floral JEM, but I've never played that one. So I can only ask, what would you do? I have no JEMs to compare it with. Some things have been updated over the years..

In short, do you think a 10 year old 77FP plays as good as the current 7VWH does now? I know it sounds silly, but hearing it from people who've played more than one would make me feel better! Cheers.

the new and the old plays very good.thats no question.but the differents are pickups, neckprofile, neck joint.and the collour.the pbk,vdy are very thin.thinner than the rg550 necks(i have both)the others are a little rounder and have a different feel.its very personal wich one you like the best.i dont mind.but plays the smallest necks the most(usrg/pbk)but try if its possible.
either way..you cant go wrong

1. 7VWH and 77FP have the same neck profile I believe.

2. The 7VWH has an all access neck joint. Makes it easier to reach the upper registers. The 77FP has a square heel neck joint. Makes it harder, but not that noticeable once you're use to it, or if you're never up at the 24th fret.

3. 77FP has PAF PRO humbuckers, which are smoother and more "les paul" like, to my ears anyway. The 7VWH has Evolution pickups which are much more "highly strung", think "razor blades" in comparison to the PAF PRO's - which are much smoother.

4. 7VWH is also made of Alder, 77FP is Basswood.

The 77FP might be more to your liking. If setup right, it'll play the same as the 7VWH, but just sound a little less "edgey".

yeah i like FP tones, very smooth. I saw a guy playing November Rain with very old broken BFP and it exactly sounds like Slash’s tone to my ears.
