Re: The Coming into Being of VRMR #2
Sweet JP
I better enjoy being the one and only Vrmr'er while it lasts
The dots aren't REAL visible, but they are visible
Sorry, I couldn't help it
Just razzin ya JP, lol.
Look forward to seeing the final product. Although, I will be looking right at it and playing it tonight at practice

May be pyramids would ve done a better job covering the dots.

Without a doubt
But then....it wouldn't be a Vrmr. It'd be a Prmr

Re: The Coming into Being of VRMR #2
The thing with pyramids covering the dots is that frets 12 and 24 would look like ass...
Keep posting pics man, looks cool so far

Re: The Coming into Being of VRMR #2
Yes, they probably would. Truth be told, I dont think I would change the inlay type. It would look killer with pyramids, and it does look really nice with a vine, but its just too invasive for a guitar of this price.
For the BRMR I would probably just go with a mirror
truss rod cover
, chromed knobs and chrome pups.

. . . or, just buy a replacement neck with a vine inlay and swap necks, storing the original neck safely away, in case you ever want to put the JEM back to original form. Hey, I think I'll do that!

Re: The Coming into Being of VRMR #2
Jeeze....what a bunch of fraidy cats
Go for the gusto!!
My Vrmr plays amazingly. The ever so slightly changed specs made the neck better at least in my case. Slighty thinner that stock mr neck, but not as thin as a DBK.
It's the best playing neck I have!
YOU GO, JP!!!!!

Re: The Coming into Being of VRMR #2
I have to agree with Jim, I can see the dots on the pics but, BUT BUT...
JP, as long as you're happy with it, that's all that matters
I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more pictures of the project as it comes along. It's a real shame Ibanez does not sell necks unless you send them your core.

I'm awaiting pics of the routing process. As soon as I have them, expect them here.

I completely get your point. If you see what I did with the RBM1 you ll see I have no problem with extreme makovers
I also did an extreme customization over an S470 and a RT650. And, at the moment Im having done the same thing with a 1987 540R (its being re routed as a JS, with a Donnie Hunt paint job)
The thing is, the BRM is a little too expensive for me to do that kind of customization on it.
Living in cheap (dollar wise) countries like Argentina is right now has some advantages (and a lot of disadvantages). But getting a top notch (and I mean, anything you could possibly think of) custom made guitar would set you back around 1200-1500USD. So, If I wanted to have a vine or
pyramid inlay
on the BRMR I think I would probably have a new neck made for it (whith an
ebony fingerboard
while Im at it).
The whole re routing of the guitar + the paint job is going to set me back about 300USD give or take.

Re: The Coming into Being of VRMR #2
I dont think i could live with one if it had the 570-esque dots... i hate those with a passion...
The perfect neck for it (for me at least) would be the same neck thats on the UV777BK, all bound, pyramids... If id change anything is, prolly id go with ebony, so its as dark as possible...
I really like the black pups for contrast, and you cant beat black strat knobs
