The Coming into Being of VRMR #2
Hi,
I'll be posting the advancements of the
chrome vine inlay
into my BRMR in this thread.
We're now at phase 1, which is pulling the dots and the frets and filling up the (dot) holes with epoxy resin. So there isn't an awful lot to see yet, but it's a start...

I'll keep you guys posted.
Regards,
JP

Awesome JP!!!
They arent going to fill in the dots with rosewood rounds???
You realize you'll be able to see the dots......right?
Bob.....the reson should be used in the vine inlay itself
not to fill in the dots.
Although it is darker reson. Interesting to see how it turns out

Jim,
No, you won't see the dots, it meshes perfectly with the fretboard. (At least, that's the idea). If you want to avoid the epoxy resin, you'll have to replace the whole fretboard (NO WAY!).

JP

Re: The Coming into Being of VRMR #2
Actually, you don't have to replace the whole fretboard. Sims UK used pre-cut rosewood rounds to fill mine.
You just have to match up the color / grain and make suire the grain lines up. They did a very good job of it. (second time around)
The problem with the epoxy is *lack* of grain and if you look close, you'll see the dots. Not like anyones going to be looking at your guitar with a microscope though...eh???
Cool......I look forward to seeing how it turns out and welcome to the "V"rmr family, JP

Re: The Coming into Being of VRMR #2
Hi,
Fresh pics have just arrived at my mail box...
The holes filled with epoxy resin:
As you can see Jim, the epoxy-filled holes are barely observable and only depending on the angle of perspective and light fall. I think once the vine is in place, they will be hardly distinguishable...
The drawing of the Vine to start the actual inlay:
I can't wait to see it finished!!!!
Best regards,
JP

Re: The Coming into Being of VRMR #2
I think it'd be kind of interesting if you kept the dots in there and then still added the vine...
Would look pretty neat, imo.
