The *NEW* JEM7VSBL! - Slated for spring 2002 release

I can't tell you how much I hate to be posting this in November! This is way too early for this kind of detail to get out, but it's been posted on the net by a distributor so that kinda leaves the door open. They have killed proposed models in the past because word leaked out too early. I hope this doesn't happen again. Knowing is nice, but unfortunately it kind of kills the anticipation.

Note to Hoshino, control your foreign distributors!!

Of course it's the blue Jem we've all anticipated since Stevie started playing it. Not too bad, but no idea what the price is going to be. With the vine I imagine it's not a DBK replacement, so maybe there will actually be *3* Jems on the market this year?? Let's hope so!

And...(drum roll please!).....

Here it is, the JEM7VSBL

*THE* New Jem!!

Any idea on the wood? Pickups? Neck profile?

I'm assuming it's not mahogany with Super Distortions... Maybe someday... *

My assessment... I like the shade of blue & the vine inlay, but the plain white pickguard is a little too plain, IMO. And for some reason, I don't know why, I think the blue knobs look weird. But that could just be me...

I'm excited--finally something new that doesn't look like an industrial accident and won't (hopefully) cost 4K to bring home!

*THE* New Jem!!

Oh great, now I have to get a second job.. G.A.S. just keeps getting worse..

This is the first JEM I could see myself playing.. Though, I have agree with everyone else, a white pearl(or maybe blue pearl) pickguard would look better.. First time I've though a JEM was plain though, usually they're way flashy..

I think the blue knobs look strange because they're not 'Dimarzio blue' knobs.. As we all know, Dimarzio discontinued all their blue add ons(knobs, switch tips)..

BTW: Why is it 7V'S'BL? Is it some strange shade of blue, that looks normal in the picture?

Obviously Stevie's getting a little older and more restrained As with any new model, some will love it, some hate it, and some would have done it different. I'd go with a purple mirror guard and green knobs on mine! Actually I like the restrained look, I'm getting a little older too!

Personally I think it's great that they responded to the cry for color with a new model, I just hope you can see the blue vine better in person because it's tough to follow in that pic, where the yellow, pink, and green vines will blind you .

Guesses - basswood, VWH profile as they were moving away from the thinner ones, Breeds. All purely a guess of course. I can see the hardware is powdercoat, sweet.

ALL it says is

NEW JEM7V-SBL STEVE VAI MODEL

[picture]

AVAILABLE SPRING 2002

copy and paste, note I left out the dash after the 7.

I admit the only letdown for me is knowing this early. Takes all the fun out of anticipating the possibilities! I'd rather dream than know 2 months before it's announced.

[in all fairness, when a distributor put's it right on the frontpage of their website I guess it's officially announced to that country. The boggle of the internet and the fact every country has their version of NAMM at different times, maybe they had theirs early. But *someone* is bound to see it and spread it like wildfire so it might as well be me ]

There's a notion, it's possible it's just a Euro model and the US is going to get a chrome with chrome vine Jem! The JEM7VC

The Jem doesn't have the Double Edge, I was talking about an S420 I saw. It has a vintage trem they're calling a Double Edge and it's definately piezo. Sorry for the confusion.

*THE* New Jem!!

First thoughts on sighting the new blue Jem...

Well, I'm sure it well sell well. In fact, looking at that guitar brings back a discussion about it at Jemfest Europe in October. The Jem franchise is so strong that irrespective of what colour / hardware combinations Hoshino develop it'll sell well.

I'd suspect that it'll tap into a few market areas that the Jem has not gone into before..... evidence this post already

So... my predictions for the life of this baby...

1) This Blue Jem will be played by more girls than any other Jem before it. Not that I'm saying that'll be the exclusive one-and-only 'Girls Jem' but I think it'll certainly appeal more to the ladies than a DBK or BSB might have

2) You'll see plenty about second hand when new purchasers search out some of the more challenging Jems.

3) You'll see lots and lots of posts here about maple boards, brushed / polished / pearloid scratchplates and powder knobs.

4) More people will like it than would admit to it in public! Go on, you know you like it!

So - I await the arrival on UK shores with interest. Well done Hoshino - you clever little guys!

this isn't new *all current jem-bashers are usually sour grape freaks or closet jem lovers

*THE* New Jem!!

I really like the look of this one

Again just my guesses, but I'm gonna go with Breeds, Basswood and a Wizard neck. Like the DBK and DNA had.

I'd like to see New pickups (cos new is always fun :biggrin a wood that compiments the pickups and a big meaty (in JEM terms anyway )777 style neck.

I would also lose the blue knobs in favour of white probably. And I'm curious as to what the designation means too Toshiro
