Re: The Jem ATD PMC Restore thread

That is awesome man, I did a half hearted search for the guitar, but got stopped by the language barrier. Good luck! It will be a beauty when it's done!

Re: The Jem ATD PMC Restore thread

I totally forgot you did your own swirls! The more work you put into it anyways means in the end a better guitar and something thats a lot closer to you than something that has been sitting under a bed for 20 years.

Re: The Jem ATD PMC Restore thread

Ok, step 2:
It is almost completely stripped. since it is not clearcoated and the paint is preety soft it comes of real easy, still a pain in the neck though.

Just realized I'll need to do some work on the claw as well since whoever striped the swirl off of it managed to flatten the edges of the "finger" routes (hope you know what I mean)
so I'll need to reshape them a little to give each "finger" a little more depth and restore it's roundness.

You could fill the monkey grip, pull the pyramids, drop in a tone block, custom paint it, remove the headstock face and light it on fire for the burned effect.

It isn't bad... it's a sin, here!
And we really put our thoughts on you... best wishes! Good work so far.

As with the Lion's Claw, the best thing you can do is to route a deeper and larger cavity, fill the cavity with some basswood, and redo the cavity.
At least, the back side of the cavity...

Thumbs up!!!

Re: The Jem ATD PMC Restore thread

What are you using to sand the old paint off? Grit? by hand or machine? So far so good. What a shame tho.

Re: The Jem ATD PMC Restore thread

She's in good hands. I would just sharpen up the claw a little bit, no need to fill it and redo it. I absolutely can NOT WAIT to see this after it's been dipped. Are you going to sand down and re-clear the fretboard as well?

I wasn't talking about the guitar but that is ok, I'm sure jemaholic understands.
Anyway I'm from Israel, jemah is in the states and you are in Portugal so I guess theres bound to be some sort of language barrier.

I use a very coarse sanding paper, 80 grit i think ( thats the number printed on the back so...) with a handheld sanding machine to get most of the paint off. and then I switch to a lighter sand paper. The inside of the horns, the grip etc has to be done by hand.

Yes that is what I intend to do, no need to go overboard with this. The neck is going to get a thorough cleen-up and recleared. I'll also need to redo the headstock since it is scratched and worn, so if someone has a spare PMC decal or knows where I can get one, let me know
