exactly what I was thinking. I'm not going to touch the headstock until I get the proper decal.

Hi Wil, since you ask so nicely I'll see what I can do

ok, not much to report this time. The guitar is stripped and I started applying the sealer. The wood is so dry that the first coat was completely soaked and it looked like theres no sealer on it at all.
The big thing this week is the neck. I started cleaning it. Here is a picture of the first 2 frets so you will see the difference and understand the "magnitude" of the task.

Yeah, screw the documentary about the crew digging the frozen Lockheed P-38 out of the glacier and restoring it to flying condition. THIS is a project of historic proportions!

Re: The Jem ATD PMC Restore thread

I'm using the electric tooth brush method described here:
http://www.jemsite.com/forums/f21/ma...ing-75764.html

It gets most of the stuff off but since it is so dirty theres a dark "shadow" left so then I switch to 0000 grade fine steel wool.
You need to be very patient since you don't want to scratch the maple or the inlays to much so it takes a lot of time especially at this level of dirtiness.
this neck is very old and worn so theres no clearcoat left on the boardto worrie about. If your neck is relatively new you need to be extra carfull not to take the clearcoat off, unless that is what you want to do.

well this is kind of a photographed documentary
Not a very detailed one since I can't stop and take pictures every second but if you have any questions I'll be happy to answer the best I can.

Plus you can find a ton of info on the tech section.

Yeah I thought about it but surprisingly the frets are ok and not completelly worn out as you might expect considering the state of this guitar. So I'll do it the hard way and just polish the frets later.

That was my first thought as well. Pull the frets, and just refinish the entire neck.
