The RESTORED PMC thread!!

Some of you might remember or have seen this thread from a couple of months ago:
http://www.jemsite.com/forums/f15/a-...ain-80407.html

I was thinking about that guitar since then and I had a real argument with my self wether I should get it or not. A couple of weeks ago someone was selling 3 Jems on the bay, a 10th, DNA, and PMC and that was the breaking point for me. I called the guy with the mutilated PMC and explain all that is wrong with the guitar. He knew absolutely nothing about it except that it is a Jem and that Jems are very pricy. He invited me to come to his place and check her out.
I brought a few pictures of PMC jems to show him what this guitar suppose to look like. He was floored and realized that he will not get what he was hoping for. Apperantly he got this guitar from a friend that does not play at all. His friend got it in europe from a girl he was hanging out with while traveling and it was already blue by that time. I plugged it in to make sure everything was ok and it sure did sounded and played like a jem, and after a long discussion we agreed on 900$.
So now I got it and I'm gonna restore it. I know it will never be worth as much as an ATD original PMC but that was never my motivation. This is going to take me awhile since I'll need to squeeze it in between all the other guitars I need to do so be patient please.

EDIT: I thought I'll add a "before" picture now that the whole process is done so here it is

Avi

Step 1. Taking the guitar apart.

It is real

Someone sanded a nice chunk of the heel and the plate is sticking out slightly

the single coil cover fell off

Dirty,dirty,dirty neck

Re: The Jem ATD PMC Restore thread

And just to add a more "tragic" dimention to an already "tragic" situation as I was taking her apart I found small remains off what was and will not be again:

If the previous owner didn't take off the old clearcoat before the blue, you should be able to recover the original swirl. You've got lots of work ahead of you. Good luck.

Holy $%#@! Where was this Jem kept? The bottom of the ocean?!?
And the wiring! I've seen better on old telephone systems!
GOOD LUCK! It'll take some work but I'm betting she turns out killer!

Ouch!

When you say $900, I hope that translates to $300 USD.

Good Luck!

Re: The Jem ATD PMC Restore thread

I'd say the neck is worth half that alone... so I wouldn't say it's a bad buy. If you were to sell the pieces individually I think you'd easily get your money back. But I know that's not your intention. Colour brightness is gonna be the biggest challenge I think. Very interested to see how it turns out. Good luck buddy

That is going to be a very cool project. In the end, you'll have a killer guitar and a close personal connection to it.
