Thinking of replacing my K-7 with a UV777BK
is it worth it? I LOVE my K7 but i'm having problems getting over the inlay... also... its barely 2 weeks old. Its an 01' model but I bought it brand new.
Looks: UV >>>>>>>>> K7
Playability: last time i checked they were pretty much the same.
My K7 has a lo-
pro edge
... i have no problem with the edge pro but i really dig the lo-pro... K7 also has a
mahogany body
and really good pickups... how is the UV's sound compared to a K7?
like i said, as much as i love my K7 my dream 7 string has always been a UV, and that hasn't changed. advice? comments?
thx

Re: Thinking of replacing my K-7 with a UV777BK
well im not authority on Universes since mine just came in today. But the Blazes are quite different then the PAF7's there more scooped midrange.
As for looks the UV def wins, but Im really diggin the Edge Pro it sits almost flush.. Its not a bad trem, that was one of my fears.
If you liked the Uni why did you buy the K7?
Which one did you get?
I say if your wallet can afford it, keep the K7 and tune it to A(ala Korn) and then get the UV tuned to B..
Thats my plans for my next 7 is to have it tuned to A.. Korn might not be hard to play but it sure is fun

Re: Thinking of replacing my K-7 with a UV777BK
My K7 is Blade Grey. And No my wallet Cannot afford it ATM... thats why im asking if its worth trading The K7 for a UV... I play a lot of tech
death metal
and shred oriented music...
and the blazes are more scooped or the paf7's are?

Blazes are more scooped..
www.dimarzio.com
I say if you can find someone to trade do it, other wise your probably going to take a hit on the K7 if selling it.

Re: Thinking of replacing my K-7 with a UV777BK
What about the whole basswood vs. mahogany debate? i know many prefer mahogany... but on the other hand im a lead guitarist and i basswood has a lot more midrange to stick out of the mix...

Re: Thinking of replacing my K-7 with a UV777BK
I have never played a K7 but heard many good things about them. I have always liked the UVs. I had a '98 UV777BK but I sold it a few years ago and sadly regret it. I do have a UV7PWH which I love and a UV7BK on the way but the 777BK has always been on my want list ever since I sold it.

Re: Thinking of replacing my K-7 with a UV777BK
I say go for it just for the looks the UV wins hands down. If you don't like the
Blaze pickups
put something else in
.

plus, i would say the UV would be lighter on the shoulders, mahogany just makes my back ache thinking about it.

Weight of woods of the same species vary a lot. I tried an SA2020 which was much lighter than the RG1527.

Re: Thinking of replacing my K-7 with a UV777BK
my Universe is alot lighter than my Jem was.. By almost a 1lb and a half.. and its more metal, and more wood since there is nothing cut out.
That Jem was a heavy piece of wood..
