To all who are familiar wtih the 7V AND the BSB necks

I looked around the jemsite spec sheet (and did a fruitless forum search), but couldn't find an answer to my satisfaction.

There's an obvious difference between the neck on the 7vwh/SBL and on my BFP. The BFP is thinner (front to back).

I am looking into getting a BSB in the near future, but have never seen/played one. Are the neck dimensions the same as the 7vs or more like my BFP? Or someplace in the middle? I just want to know what to expect.

As for my preference, I find the 7vs a little chunky for my personal taste. i like the BFP neck.

thanks
~K

well- according to Ibanez people, the specs for ALL JEM necks are the same, but it's also been admitted that Wizard neck profiles were used for DBK, 90's, DNA's, and PBKs.

the JEMVWH neck according to most feels slimmer than the BFP. In fact, it's been said that the JEM neck has been getting thinner and thinner for years. But your opinion is the only one that matters.

FWIW, the BSB was issued in the same time frame as the VWH so expect them to feel very similar with the exception of the stained neck.

I read that first part on the spec sheet...but that's what wasn't to my satisfaction.

The neck on my BFP is absolutely, without a doubt less chunky than any 7v that I've played. Unfortunately, I don't have one here at my disposal to A/B - i only know from playing them in the stores.

Here's a different angle...is it possible that the neck dimensions are the same, but they're not taking into account the thickness of the fretboard? i.e Is the Ebony fretboard thicker than the Maple fretboard, thus making it feel chunkier?

Everybody get out your rulers and measure your fretboard thickness.
My BFP is between 3/16" and 1/4".

supposedly hand finishing gives slightly different sizes....i don't know if noticeable or not.
the first difference i can think of is the BSB will give you a blue thumb!

it's completely plausible I suppose. It's also possible that your BFP is a "played in" guitar and has a nice smooth neck, while the VWH's were new and still a bit sticky. Plus hand finishing leaves a wider margin of error

lol. Well The specs state the wizard 2 and the "jem'' neck are almost identical, but quite simply put they just are not like that at all. Basically the jems are given more care, and depending on what time of day and the mood of the guy or gal handfinishing the necks different things will occur so in fact the jems may actually be more subject to having extreme differences in neck size and shape than the other series. Its just one of these things where your going to have to try each one before you can find one you really like
