Too many guitars..do I consolodate?

I just counted.. I have 18 guitars..2 of them are basses.

I've been thinking about getting a Jem7VWH

All my guitars for one reason or another, whether crappy or not mean something to me.. a great show, a funny story etc.

The ones I just never play anymore are:
RG350DX
S470DXQS
Washburn N2
Yamaha FG351
SR400 Bass

Do I sell these and use that money to buy one guitar, or do I keep them and just buy my 19th guitar?

Stupid question I know, I mean I'm a grown man, but for some reason I always think I'll regret letting go of a guitar. It's like they're my kids or something. So I ask you guys. Sell/trade straight up, or just find another 1600 bucks laying around and get one more?

The difference between having 18 or 19 guitars is not too big...
People will say you have GAS in the same way!

Well, I could never justify having guitars that don't get played, but if that works for you then go for it. One more shouldn't hurt right?

Yeah, pare it down, have fewer guitars but higher quality ones. Make sure all your bases are covered: a superstrat, a strat, a Les Paul style, an acoustic, a bass...

Re: Too many guitars..do I consolodate?

Eek 50/50

I have highend guitars too, only a few play as good or better then my S470. But it's not the first one I reach for.

It was convenient to leave guitars at multiple band spaces for practice, but that doesn't happen anymore, and I think it hit me today when they were all in one place....and no place to put them.

Yep, the more I think about it the more I think it's time to pare it down.

Keep my Universe, my RG7620, 777, Martin 000-15, my SR700, PRS CE22 and a few other sentimentals

Still a decent collection.. actually I don't like the PRS, other then to look at, maybe dump that too, get a nice strat that I'm missing, sell the low end stuff for a VWH

and I hate to say it, but start buying guitars at random again

Thanks guys..

Others feel free to dissuade me or reaffirm the smart move!

argh, you guys kill me! treating such expensive guitars like toys lol.

"uh, yeha, you know, i guess the Jem doesn't suit my wallpaper, but my les paul does, i'll have to keep it!"

just joking. but still...

Re: Too many guitars..do I consolodate?

I was in a similar situation, with 10 high end guitars---all from different companies. I sold off 5 of the guitars I rarely used or would never feel comfortable performing with,,,,,and got a brand new Jackson SL2H and Ibanez jem 77Vbk from the sales. Yeah, I miss some of the guitars, but only from a collector sense.......guitars I would look at but never play much. I only built up the collection to find which guitars I really feel at home with. I think the trade off was worth it. I'd say narrow down your collection from my experience.

Re: Too many guitars..do I consolodate?

I'd agree with the fewer better idea.

Also consider what tunings you need. I had 3-4 guitars of which 2 shared standard tuning - which was silly. So i sold them now I have my medium range prestige Ibanez and a Ran Custom 7 - Drop C and Standard B respectively.

As they say quality > quantity.

Charity is your only cure, I'll take the RG350 just to help you I'm no high end snob.

Joking joking. I definately agree one great axe is better than 3-4 case/rack dwellers. I think Gilkybear has it all figured out.
