Re: selling stolen guitar on ****?

If someone with personal knowledge of the stolen guitar sees it (and can ID it) or the serial number is reported to the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) or similar international database then someone buying or looking at the guitar would have to check the serial number with NCIC to find out if it is stolen. Other than that, there is little chance a stolen guitar will be recovered.

Lol! I was thinking the same thing.

"I have, um, A FRIEND, who is trying to sell stolen gear. And I, I mean HE, was wondering how likely it was that I'd, I mean HE'D, get caught...?"

Hah, I didn't look at it like that, just the facts. Maybe I should have. If a guitar was stolen from me, you can be sure I'd be checking e-bay on a daily basis.

For God's sake, don't do the RIGHT thing, and return them. Hell, drop them off at the door, with a note, and run. But good grief... I'm not saying anything else right now.

Is your cut worth taking a chance of being arrested for this? If your smart at all you will not get involved.

I believe some folks are getting their chains yanked here. I think I detect the faint aroma of sarcasm in those replies.

Re: (tracking someone) selling stolen guitar on e-bay?

What if someone stole your guitars and tried selling them on ****? If the victim of the theft is ever surfing around and sees something- you can get in serious trouble. **** isn't necessarily an accountability-free environment. How's this for a freak occurance- the OR at one of the hospitals I work at had some cameras go missing (working for the sterile processing dept., we're always the first to blame) and the thief was eventually caught, arrested, and fired. How? The sales rep for the scope company was golfing with an MD friend who was bragging about how he bought some cheap surgical scopes from the 'bay- the same model as the ones that we were missing. The rep. checked out the auction listings, which had the seller's location in our area (the thief was one of the surgical techs).

I know your situation and items may be different, but it's red herrings like this that should make you weary of selling stolen goods. You don't have to rat your friend out, but keep your nose clean.
