Question

Trades - how do you do it?

How are trades completed? I would be pretty uneasy about sending my guitar to someone I don't know, and hoping to get the other guitar or item in return. How have you done it?

well you need to make that decision yourself.

But I usually follow these rules

Ask questions and for photos of weird stuff to make sure they have the item on hand. If they cant take a picture its over and done with

Ask for phone numbers for both home and work. If they wont give em its over.

Ask for references from anywhere, I know alot of people who have traded other items not related to music.

Use common sense. If you dont get a good vibe from the person by all means dont trade or use a escrow service.

I have yet to buy or sell something here, but all of the regulars here are genuinely good guys(from what I can tell). I would be weary of a new member(guess I fall under that category ). Aside from that, I wouldn't be worried about a transaction with a fellow jemsiter.

Ask for their e-Bay name if they have one, and check their feedback.

It's always a risk you take, but you can make it less risky by checking references and knowing everything you can about the guitar you want. If you know all the details (pickups, colors, hardware, production years, etc) then you'll be better able to spot fakes and scams.
