Trem stability

hey everyone, need help with a edge pro floyd rose(the one vai uses, not exactly sure what its called) on a 2001 model 7vwh. Its worked great for some length of time, prob 2 and a half years, i am the only person to play it, the guy i bought it from never used it, and i am hard on the trem some nights, anyways used to stay in tune fine, and now when i pull up on the bar and let go the guitar will stay slightly sharp and vice versa when i pull down it stays flat, not much but just enough for me to notice its out of tune. Are the springs stretched or what, i'm not sure how to fix it...help!!!

Re: Trem stability

thanks, its kinda confusing, i guess the knife edge is the little box on the side of the trem, and that tells you that is is lined up, well i think mine is, its looks parallel....i just don't know why they aren't going back to neutral...is is time for new springs or what??? help!!!!

Re: Trem stability

Double check that the nut screws are snug.A little chapstick on the knife edges is known to help.I just bought a used jem and noticed the same thing. It was 98 that didn't look touched.I strung it up and gigged with it and noticed slight tuning problems after trem use.The allen screws that hold the nut in place were not tight and one of the saddles was also slightly loose.I felt like a dummy for not checking everything when I set it up.The chapstick really does help. The knife edges are the part of the trem that contacts the trem posts. That being said, there is a lot of info on this sight and Ibz rules if you search a little.

Did you try applying a blob of Chapstick to grooved section of the post (where the knife edges sit)? Like musicdr said, it can help.

Re: Trem stability

You don't, you need to remove the bridge to closely inspect them, if that's what you mean? Or do you mean to apply Chapstick?

Re: Trem stability

Put a blob of Chapstick on a toothpick or something. Rotate the bridge posts 180 degrees. Apply Chapstick in groove. Spin posts back 180 degrees.
