tremolo bar holder nut

i have tried using a deep well socket from the back, after taking off the pin on the trem bar holder and i still can't get the darn nut to tighten, my bar gets loose and just flops around. Is there some trick or special brand of socket to use. Ive already looked at the tech stuff on this site on how to fix it and i still can't seem to figure out how to tighten the thing! Help

Re: tremolo bar holder nut

Replace the arm bushings first to check they're not just worn.

Re: tremolo bar holder nut

they are fine, its the nut that is making the whole unit move, not the bar itself

Re: tremolo bar holder nut

dude... its far easier to take the trem out.

try tightening it from the top with a flat head before you tighten the nut. sometime i find that it unscrews as well.

Leave the strings on the guitar and the locknuts tight and then remove the tremolo springs. You should now be able to pull the tremolo away from the posts and get at the nut.

Re: tremolo bar holder nut

Nope. Just undo the springs and leave the claw alone and it will return to where you had it before.

It's too easy to damage it this way, I would advise anyone to do it the correct way, don't be lazy about it. Take the bridge out.

yea i have done that before shows for a quick fix and it not only damages the gold but it is not a permanent thing, i will def. do the spring removal. what size deepwell socket is it again? and also what is the claw and why do i need to be worried about it when i pull out my trem???

The claw is the L-shaped piece in the back. The tremolo springs hook to one side and the other has the (2) screws that go into the body. No one said anything to worry about.

I wasn't going to say it would be in tune when you put things back, but it's awfully close. Others have had good luck too. All I know is it's a better option than removing/replacing the strings (unless they're due for replacement).
