Universe necks.
Ok, so I think I'm gonna start saving up for a Universe, but I'd like to know about the neck profile in relation to a classical acoustic.
Right now all I have is the classical, and if the UV neck is smaller than that, great. If it's the same size in terms of width, great. If it's wider, not so great.
I'd appreciate any info here guys.
Thanks.

Re: Universe necks.
I'd say it's about the same as a wide classical neck.

Re: Universe necks.
wide but super thin and the maple just feels so smexy on my universe... seriously... the neck on a original universe makes it the most amazing guitar i've ever played... were you going to buy an old one or a new one?

Re: Universe necks.
What exactly is the difference?
I've got a UV777PBK (1999), but never played another Universe.

Re: Universe necks.
Well two of the obvious ones are the old ones have the lo-
pro edge trem
and the new ones have the edge-pro... The new ones have the AAJN and the old ones have the block style... Sure they are made of the same wood and have the same pickups, but they feel very, very different. Both are great instruments and its total preferance... I just think if someone is going to spend 1800 on a shiny new universe they should make sure they know what that preferance is.

Well, having never played an original Edge or Lo-Pro, I don't imagine I'm going to be monstrously dissapointed. Also, I have played quite a few AANJ, and found them quite nice indeed. Especially compared to the block joint/Fender joint.
So I think I'll be ok.
Also, what's the opinion on the Evo 7? I've heard some people say it's great, and some people say it's terrible. Opinions please?

Re: Universe necks.
I had an EVO 7 in my Universe once.. Decided to get rid of it in the long run. Great for lead playing but sucks donkey balls for Low-B riffage.

Re: Universe necks.
Got EVO 7's in both my UV and RG7. In the bridge I like them much better than the Blaze. It screams
In the neck I'm not really sure, they're nice but it isn't very heavy sounding. Think I like them better than the Blaze though.

I think the Evo 7 is a phenominally good pickup, but I think it depends a lot on the body wood. I've currently got my Evo in a mahogany bodied guitar, but I've heard of people putting them in basswood bodied guitars and not being all that happy.
I'd love to try an Evo in a UV just to confirm with my own ears one way or another.

Re: Universe necks.
(Note: Just in case you were considering other pickups also)
I just replaced the
blaze neck
and
bridge pickups
in UV with D-Activator 7's. I really like them - they really articulate on the low b and sound great the whole way up to the high E.

Re: Universe necks.
I own a classical and a UV and I think the UV neck is slightly smaller than a classical.

Re: Universe necks.
Thanks for the replies guys, I appreciate it.
Also, has anyone ever put a EMG 707 in a UV? I've seen some pictures to that effect, and was wondering if anyone here had done it.
