Well between the UV and the JEM that's really whether you want 6 or 7 strings.
I haven't had any
bad
experiences with
Carvin guitars
, but I've played a few and didn't really care for them. They appeared to be well made though.

UV Or carvin7 or a BFP?
YES!
I have UV7BK (no all access) and a BFP
BFP is fantastic and rare with a great finish
UV7BK has a bigger tone, poss. slightly more difficult to play
lowest prices I have heard are BFP $700 and UV $500 (the UV is on sale at the moment, see another thread)
keep checking Rich's Ibanez Rules for the guitars you want, he has great stuff.
cheers

I have a soft spot for those BFP's,
but I think if I didnt haave a 7 string but had a couple of 6's I would go for the UV.
never played the carvin, sorry

That makes two of us !
If the number of strings doesn't matter, I'd go for the BFP...

If you're thinking of a 7-string, then you should remember that if you buy a used UV, you'll probably be able to sell it for pretty much what you paid. A new Carvin takes a beating in the resale value department the moment you make it your own... On a personal note, I have a DC127, and though it is undoubtably a very, very well made instrument, it's no Jem... The quality's there, but it seems to lack something -
personality
, for lack of a better word. Still and all, an excellent guitar, and I'm sure that if you were to find a used DC727 or decided to purchase a new one, you would be very happy with it...
...and do you really need the floyd?

Ive come to the point where I cant live without Lo-Pro,
every guitar I play I just keep reaching for the arm even tho I know its not there.
its inbuilt into my subconscious and I never really knew how much I used the bar until it wasnt there and my hand kept grasping at nothing.
cant live without it

Unless you really need 7 strings, B-F-P!
I haven't ever played a Carvin, but after all this is jemsite.
Personally, I've been on the prowl for a nice clean BFP to get into my grubby little hands.

There's one thing:
You definately shouldn't buy an UV because
it's UV
!!! If you like it alot. Then it's a different story. But don't buy a guitar because of it's status!

I have both,
UV777BK and JEM77BFP
Their primary difference is tone and string count.
BFP has a rather thin tone when compared to the UV.
But has a very comfy fretboard.
If you want to play very heavy stuff, get the UV. BFP isn't quite up to it.

Like courjan, I've own both a UV and BFP, star at them for a while, they both grow on you, of coarse my PMC could do a better in that category .... cough cough, sorry
comparing the 2, I always found the BFP is bit more, hmmm, Bluesier, in terms of tone, and you might wanna consider that a UV777BK has bigger frets than the BFP........ hope these helps!
Walter
PS, GO FOR AN UVMC man!!!

I'd say that John should buy a BFP if he can find one
