IMHO go for an older UV or S5407 if you are bent on the S shape. If you are talking about dropping new-UV sized cash, go for a JC7. If you are on a bit of a budget, grab a used 7620 or 1527 - both excellent guitars at a fraction of UV (new or old) cost. PU upgrade ftw.

Re: UV777 or S7320?
Get the UV777BK, just a great guitar! Alternatively, as others have said, if you're on a budget, RG7620 or RG1527 is the way to go.
Oh yeh, also read some great reviews on Schecters, so you may want to try one of those.

The UV has 24 frets where as the S only has 22.

Re: UV777 or S7320?
I definetly prefer EMGs over passove pick-ups so there is no question I will be putting them in whichever guitar I purchase. I don't mind the 22 vs. 24, personally I think schecter guitars are horrible. I've played Ibanez for awhile, and I enjoy the feel and design of their guitars more so then ESP,Dean,Schecter,Music Man, etc. So I definetly want to purchase and Ibanez, if it helps at all I play a 5150 head through a
Mesa Boogie
cabinet.

Definately check out the EB/MM Petrucci 7. I know its not an Ibanez, but it was one of the nicest guitars I ever played.
I cannot find this guitar online ANYWHERE. Is it discontinued or something?

Then in your case a J Custom may be the way to go...there was a guy on here a month or two back who just got a brand new J Custom 7 in with the flamed top, tree of life, the whole shabam and it was fitted with EMG 707's I believe.

just get a d activator instead of having to cut a place for a battery(but idk if they come in 7's yet), personally the pups in a uv are nicer than emg's

Re: UV777 or S7320?
I have looked at a few older universes, so far I've really liked what I've seen in the UV7BK. Next question are EMGs better then the stock universe pick-ups?

So there is no question you are putting EMGs in whatever guitar you get, but you want to know if the stock pick ups are better? Im confused.
Now that Im done being a jerk, there isn't one that is "better" than the other, its all what you like. The last thing we need is another thread that is just going to argue whether EMGs sound good or not.

Re: UV777 or S7320?
Definitely the UV777PBK, just got it last mth brand new at my dealer for about US$1000/-. It's a 2003 model 1 peice neck without any Volute and they kept it for 2 yrs untouched that is why I got a good price for it brand new.
As for S7320, it's Korean made and to me MIK guitars always sux big time especially the 1 with ZR.

Yeah from my personal experience on six
string guitars
, EMGs are hands down the better pick-up. However I've heard the "passives can be better then actives" rant several times. So I was wondering if this was one of those cases in which it might actually be true.
