UV777BK Inlay Question

Have these always been pearl and abalone? I have a 1998 and it's definitely not genuine abalone. It appears to be that powdery-like opalescent swirl plastic mock-abalone. Not sure about the "pearl" part, though. I could go either way on that one.

This is in no way a complaint since I LOVE the appearance of my inlay but I'm wondering when or if there was a change in the production runs. What about the Jem7PBK and UV7PWH? Just curious. I wish I could upload a picture for comparison to show you what I mean.

Any clue? thanks in advance.

I believe (and know on a couple years anyway) The abalone on the UV777BK, as well as teh JEM777VWH, is real shell, it is the small colorful parts. The MOP stuff though (the white) is plastic, not real shell. Not sure about on the 98, but I would think it was abalone.

I'm just about positive that all the inlays on a UVPBK are oids, none of it is real except the body pyrimid. I just pulled out a PWH, same thing, oids.

Cool. Thanks. I was just curious about the MOP(oid)/Abalone(oid) on the pyramid inlays on other models.
